Well I did buy the MX8 I was looking at and I am pleased with it. I had a try of it yesterday and it felt good and seems a nice fit. Need to get a bit of shooting now but managed a 17 and 15 at UT. Gun swings a bit faster than my Browning and the trigger pulls are very nice. To be honest so many things are different compared to the Browning it will take a wee bit to get used to.

The person who sold me the gun had not used it for more than ten years... which showed because although nice and clean on the outside all the old oil had solidified on the inside and it took a bit of cleaning took a good bit of cleaning fluid just to soften the gunge enough to remove the trigger. Here are a few photos before I cleaned it! The brown gunge on the trigger is not rust it muck!

You will not look back now. Good luck with it.

In most (all) gun shops that would be described at "Mint"!!

Looks like a good one one to me. Well done. Enjoy!

Thanks Nic! I was very apprehensive when I made the person the offer because its a bit like ebay for guns and the like, when you make the offer you should stick by it... all I had were a few not too brilliant photos so I gulped knocked they guy back the price of a trigger kit (absolutely essential so I am told!) and made the offer! Turned out I could not have met a nicer person when I got to his place, he runs a huge garden flower nursery and had to stop shooting because he burst all the tendons in his shoulder, being 67 he just said he had to give up shooting so was selling all his stuff. I am a bit chuffed actually because the gun turned out better than I could have imagined and it fits me well! The gun is ... 24 years old! The photos just don't show it but the gun is showing not a lot more wear than my new Browning which has fired 3.5k ish !

Lovely.

Be prepared for a couple of months to get used to it. From my experience scores can go down before they go up with new guns especially if there radically different such as moving makers. Will be a good move long term as i believe P enjoy the odd win at world cup ot level. :)

Cheers Ian ... world cup level you say ... I can but dream! Even if I had started fifty years back regardless of what the 10k rule says I would still be a 20-23 shooter! But lets be fair to someone like me who by nature is competitive... I am going to give it my best... at the BTC's I frequent :)

I really like the look of that, the stock looks about right too , can't see any gunge though, looks cleaner than mine after a clean.

Thanks Hamster... the gun for me anyway shows a lot of rib with that stock. Its funny but the gun shows me as much rib as my Browning does with the comb raised by about half an inch! I shot it on Saturday and I thought I am missing over the top wtf! Was not until I actually got the gun out again today... as you do with your new toy that I noticed this! I don't know much about gun fit but the length of pull is right and my eye is great down the barrel have I had my comb too low all the time on the Browning? Funny on Saturday one of the guys was talking to me and spotted the gun asked about the Browning and cut a long story short tried my gun for a mount ... loved it then told me to mount the gun and looked down the rib to check my eye...said it was perfect! I am going to have a bit of a time getting used to it I think.

Edit

Hammy the trigger is a bit cleaner than it was as a lot of the gunge was removed just getting it out of the action it was totally stick there with brown sticky gunge.

Browning must set their trap guns quite a bit different because I have had my eye checked on many occasions and where I have the comb is just slightly too high for normal trap although I have not checked the pattern.

Hi Les

Used it twice now and am pleased so far. I suppose it will take a bit of time and I have only shot 4 rounds of UT and scored 17 and 15 first time out and on Saturday I scored 21 and 19 so I think I might do well with it. I prefer or should say shoot ABT better than UT so it will be interesting to try the gun at my normal club where we only shoot ABT. The gun is choked 1/2 and full so I was worried how it would be shooting fast targets first barrel, but on Saturday I was blitzing them so I don't think it will be a problem with 28g loads of 7.5 but never tried it with 24g yet so i am giving them a go on Saturday to see if the breaks are still good.. I think at the end of the day if you are on target then you get good breaks? But the gun fits me well and it moves nicely as well it is 250g lighter than my Browning, but on Saturday I felt really confident with it and even though I missed two of the last five on the trot in the round I scored 21.... So in summary can't wait for Saturday to come :)
