Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the above lubricants, both from napier?

Ive got the Gun oil,but have seen people using the "gun cleaner" on you tube.

I was of the understanding that the oil was an all rounder...is it suitable for cleaning the inside of the barrels?

Napier cleaner is good stuff, use it to spray down the barrels and lightly spray the action. It should be wiped off afterwards as it is a cleaning agent not a lubricant. When clean, use the oil to lubricate and protect.

Fair enough, I viewed it as cleaner, although aware it wasn't a powerful degreaser. Personally I rationalise that once applied, you can't get the dirt off unless you remove it (a mixture of cleaner fluid and muck) with a good paper or cloth wipe. Therefore the gun is now dry, so needs oil. I suppose you could spray, wipe and spray a bit more on?

I used Napier gun cleaner for 15 months, until I was told by the gunsmith that I had a lot of lead build up. I was embarrassed as I al;ways cleaned my gun after use. I switched to something with more solvent and a lot more comes out when I use the bronze brush now. I still squirt the gun cleaner (oil) down the barrels before putting the gun away and also use a squirt of it on a cloth to clean the outside of the barrels. The gun oil I use on the other bits is in a can so is less suitable for that job.

Call me old fashioned but I like youngs 303

Full length mop no cleaner good clean cartridge job err done

Oh yeah good point will. I do squirt 303 around the ejector and take me out for a good clean from time to time. I thought we were only talking barrel. I will get back in me cage :)

If it doesn't say removes lead and copper on the tin then its probably no good. (Copper is just full-bore not really relevant to shotguns but good solvent will remove both)

303 and Hoppies are well known but there are others and some that profess to do the job but don't! so beware!
