Hi every one i have been shooting clays for about a year now and just last week got a new browning 725 the week before i got it i shot a 36 out of 50 with my 28 inch berreta 682 but i had ago with my 725 and only got 25 out off 50 but my 725 is a 30 inch barrel it fits me nice but i was my poorer score down to having the new gun so what i want to no is till i get my eye in with would skeet be a good disipline for me to get use to the gun because my freinds was saying your giving to much lead on the target is this because im use to shooting the 28 barrel hope it makes sence thankyou

Hi Luke, Skeet is a good place to practice, but there are so many variables involved, not just the new gun.. It's worth spending a few quid on lessons with a recommended instructor, it's money we'll spent and you'll get the best from your investment in the gun.

Sod it Kent, you just beat me too it mate!

It can take awhile to adjust to a different make of gun. The Browning will probably handle differently to the 682, I know when ever I have had ago with a Berreta, apart from the DT10 range, they have always felt a lot lighter in at the front and move alot quicker, if you take the forend of a Browning, although I not sure of the 725, certainly all of my 525 and the wife's Miroku 3800 there is alot of metal work within as opposed to a Berreta.

Browning's are in general a little bit longer in the stock length, 14 3/4"  than Berreta's which are normally 14 1/2".

One point to make is especially with sporting you can shoot totally different scores on the same layout from one day to the next ,even on the same day !! Normally you find Brownings shoot fairly flat whereas Berettas tend to shoot higher, also i know when i started shooting skeet i used my F3 with short barrels , (skeet barrels were deemed short is best ) on a  day after shooting sporting (with my 32") barrels i joined my son on the skeet range and was amazed how much easier it was shooting skeet with these barrels ,it seemed you had a lot less gun movement and it appeared you did not have to see so much lead , nearly all skeet shooters these days use 32/30 " barrels with even a couple of guys using 34" barrels . You say the gun fits you nicely , is that your take on it, or has someone who knows what they're looking at says it fits you ?? can be a big difference !!

The man in the gun shot shop tryed the 725 an a miruko mk38 it just feels better to me than 28 inch berretta maybe i should have it checked by a well known person

Im sure if you have a chat with someone in your local shooting ground they'll be able to point you in the right direction if theres an instructor there he'll probably have a quick look for you , obviously if your new to shooting and shoot gun down there is no point in actually having your gun 'altered' to fit you, until you have shot a fair time and your gun mount is consistent  (within reason) .But the thing that can be checked is with the gun mounted your eye is where it should be therefore the gun will be shooting where you are looking ...........(writing this i'm starting to think i obviously must spend some of my time looking at anything but the clays )

All else aside, you just can't make any real judgement based on a round or two with either gun; as already mentioned by others your performance can vary from day to day for no discernible reason so neither gun may be at fault as such. Skeet is a good learning ground so learn the angles on these and shoot both guns a while more yet before deciding which one suits you.

Just another quick one shooting skeet with all diffrent angles would that help with the sporting because the club i go to the maximum shot you may do is about 40 yard crosses again all comments took on board an again thanks lads

Skeet shooting will give you (just about) any angle your likely to come across in sporting , does'nt matter how far the targets are away the angle remains the same but obviously the further the clay is away the lead you will need (percieved or otherwise )will increase with distance .Although you will have other variables in sporting i.e target speed ,curving targets ect. which you should not have in skeet , the idea being that the clays flight ,speed, angles and height should (wind allowing) be identical .

During the second world war, skeet shooting was used to teach fighter and bomber  pilots about lead ect. for use when in battle (although we dont shoot skeet at 300 + MPH ) Once again the angles the angle (exactly the same as releasing bombs on a target ) .I've been told that a lot of our WWII aces were very good or champion shotgun shooters

If you need anymore convincing about the benefit of skeet shooting ,remember G.Digweed (20 times world champion ) started as a skeet shooter (did'nt do him any harm !!!)
