Well it may have been the fools day but Northampton put on a great shoot that thankfully didnt make (too much)) of a fool of me.

Got the car waterproof again this morning and while the carpets were on the patio drying me and mrs fuz took a run over to Northhampton. Booked on and then wandered down to stand 1 to meet up with our squad. Found we were shooting with Brett and James Hand and Joe and Ruth DeMulder. 2 excellent shots in the Hands and both DeMulders are always there or there abouts in class so a good standard to keep up with.

I started of nicely with 1 away on the first then managed to get away with a 4 on a simo midi/standard l-r crosser. Midi had to be shot sharply and onto the standard before it dropped out of view behind the high hedge. A nice l-r riser with a teal followed I managed 1 away then onto my horror show! High crossing r-l from slightly behind off the high tower followed by r-l battue. was concentrating so hard on the high bird I kind of forgot the easier battue and blanked the stand. Realised after the high bird was curling slightly away and was a bad read for me.

Bounced back with 3 straights in a row then a 2 ex 6 on a screaming midi along a high bank that needed a shedload and a low fast driven on report, only hit one of each. A nice long looper over the pond needed some lead and also needed reading well as when the breeze lifted it blew it 20 yrds further out.

Finished with a straight on a low l-r crosser followed by a r-l rabbit for a 71, was 4th in C when I left (75 top). 97 was HG when I left but Mickey Rouse and Chris Childerhouse were just going out so could be equalled. Will have to shoot really well to beat it IMHO but if anyone can its one of those two.

Scores already on the website here http://northamptonshootingground.com/100-sporting-010412/

Great write up.

Are you local?

I'm Corby so shoot Sywell on Thursday PMs when time allows and weekends when not shooting elsewhere.

Nice shooting fuzz.

I see my old friend John lee was there and came 2 nd in AA.

Brett came 3rd then.

His old man is James Hand not John and they own Brieley guns in the west midlands. Both good shots and both shot for England a few years back so you were in good company.

Not really, its an hour and a half drive. Used to get over there a lot when I was shooting allround and a bit of dtl but first time ive been for a while and first 100 reg sporting there. Roy set a decent track with the ground he has available with some good variety and something for all shame he hasnt got a small copse of trees just to give a little more, but overall I liked it

Edit, Maxum I knew it was either or but I am dreadful with names  Use "mate" or "fella" most of the time  hat a little look at his dt11 and was impressed doesnt look as tacky as it does in pictures.

Saw Paul Wilkinson at Kibworth he said he'd shot a 97 at Northampton - thought there's not much margin for beating that!

was a very impressive 97 in the morning, i think he was shooting so well when i looked at the score card to see what he missed i was pretty shocked but when the targets suit you and your shooting well nothing can stop you.

i think the winds (mild that it was) changed around mid day picking up the speed of some targets and slowing down others, on the whole i was pretty please with the shoot and even had a go on some of the tricky targets my self at the end of the day . its always nice when we get a good entrie on a shoot im proud of so thank you to all that came.

Think everyone enjoyed the 20 foot jumping Rabbit stand, iv always liked a good consistant rabbit and making it jump is always fun to see peoples reaction.
