NSSA "World Skeet Championships 2014" thread....

Same as last year i will do my best to run a thread about the NSSA world skeet championships being held at the National Shooting Complex (NSC) in San Antonio Texas.

The "World Skeet" has been held since 1935 and has been held solely at NSC since 1993 (although rotated between NSC and Savannah GA since 1973).

It has a massive list of facilities (check out the weblink) but for the purposes of the "world skeet" it has 45 skeet fields and is capable of holding over 800 skeet shooters shooting 1250 skeet targets each in 9 days!

The event has had many formats but now currently compromises:-

4 x 50 prelim event 200 targets (1 day)

Mini World Doubles ( 1 day)

Mini World 12 & 20 gauges 200 targets (1 day)

Mini World 28 & .410 gauges 200 targets (1 day)

Main World Doubles (1 day)

Main World 12 gauge 150 targets (1 day)

Main World 20 Gauge (1 day)

Main World 28 Gauge (1 day)

Main World .410 ( 1 day)

Unless stated each event is 100 targets and its not uncommon to have MUTIPLE 100 straights in each event. It is a rare occurrence for UK based shooter to win a world title in the MAIN event but we have done it.

So here goes.........

To start the story off many Brits flew out last week and have been competing in many "world warm up" events in the USA while they get over jet lag and make the most of the time out in the USA.

Two of these events were held at 

Grand Prairie Gun Club (GPGC) and San Antonio Gun Club (SAGC).

The brits then moved onto SAGC this last weekend and another "warm up" event.....

They had a fantastic team shoot with both Matt Fallon and Nick Marsden running perfect 100 straights in the 20 gauge event. Matt Fallon breaking 98 x 100 in the Doubles event to end up Doubles Champion.

Matt Fallon and Nick Marsden won ALL the two man team events

Then the team of 5 won the team event by 22 clear targets!!!!

Needless to say there has been quite a few "Brits" travelled out there and this photo gives you an idea of the number of guys on this trip to the BIGGEST skeet shoot in the world.

As a side note the event was won by Don Snyder on a HUGE 399 x 400 (dropping in the 20 gauge event)

Nick Marsden ended up 3rd overall on 395 x 400

Matt Fallon 6th Overall on 393 x 400 (Taking 20 gauge Champion and Doubles Champion)

Charlie Lucas 9th Overall on 391 x 400

Peter Bloomfield 10th Overall on 388 x 400

A great start for the "Brits" with 4 of them in the top 10 at a major warm up event.

Not much competition wise will happen today and tomorrow - just practice at the NSC i believe.

Winning a "World" NSSA title is a difficult task - even if your in red hot form and shooting well you are likely to be one of 20 people capable of REALLY winning the title. This is why since 1935 the UK has only had 2 people win THREE world titles in the MAIN event. Plus a handful in the MINI event.

In the "final" warm up the 4 x 50 event at NSC......

The Brits did good.....

Martin Brister 195 x 200 this won him A class in the High Over All Category (HOA) after what looks like a shoot off for the overall win as 195 was the top score of the event.

Peter Stanton Hope broke 194 x 200 this was enough for him to secure A3 in the HOA. Peter also won the .410 event outright i am now told from my reporter at the event.

Alistair Green took C1 in the HOA with a 183 x 200.

So the Mini World Doubles was yesterday and it was Brit - Peter Bloomfield who set the early pace in AAA with a 99 although the list of shooters left to post scores as we went to bed in the UK read like a who's who of NSSA skeet shooting.

There was a total of 5 one hundred straights by time the event ended and a further ten people who scored 99!

P.Bloomfield - AAA6 (99)
N.Coupe - AA5 (98)
