Just bought a S/H Beratta 931 with Optima chokes , the one that's in wont come out and there appears to be no key ? Is a key needed to remove these or has the previous owner just never removed it to clean ?

Should be a funny looking silver choke key that locks into the slots on the side of the chokes

If you bought it from a gun shop I'd take it back to get it fixed.

If you bought it privately then you should have sussed this out so your on your own and will have to pay for a repair if required.

I don't know if there should have been a choke key with that gun or that choke but Teague have a choke key available.

Normally if the chokes are kept lubricated extended chokes can be tightened and loosened by fingers only.

Salopian described on a recent thread what to do about a stuck choke.

Apologies if I am wrong in my assumption that Optimas are extended chokes!

I've standard flush chokes on my Silver Pigeon but these are different , I think they are designed to be taken off and on by hand ? I stand corrected

What thread would that be on ?

You can do them by hand but the key they supply just allows you to give them a final tweak so they don't work loose !

Do you mean a 391 semi-auto?

Your profile says you have a Beretta 686 E which is the same as me but mine has Mobil flush chokes as standard.  I agree that a Silver Pigeon may well have Optima chokes.

What does this key look like ?

If your chokes are Optima extended, they only have grooves to hold when you tighten it.

If they are Optima HP Extended, they have a coloured band on the end and will take the above choke key.

Don't worry, sometimes they can't be removed just with the fingers. If you can't locate the original choke key, as stated a Teague choke or similar should do it. They are about £12 from most gunshops.
