Seen two foxes trying to mate at the back of the farm sheds, ran into the house, grabbed the shotgun, handful of 40g AAA, one SSG (9 ball) and a couple of game shells. Turned the corner of the dry cow shed and there was the vixen, up in the wood making her way through a giant bramble patch about 65m away, killed her stone dead with the SSG, no sign of the dog, so took a shot at a monstrous pigeon with the second barrel and poleaxed it with AAA's!!! Slips two fibre 6's in, just in case another pigeon flys by...hear this funny "Ha Ha Ha Ha" kind of noise, it's the dog running past at the same distance!!! BOOM BOOM...he takes both shots and turns straight for me, running full pelt, screaming, shaking his head, beating his teeth!?!? Never loaded two cartridges so quickly!!! AAA's this time, no messing, dropped him at 20yds, arse was twitching, hair on the back of my neck was on end, I'm 50/50 whether he couldn't see me and was running at me by coincidence or if he was making a 'death charge'!!! Never, ever had a fox do this before!!!

Good shooting James never heard of a charlie charging at anyone before, must have been quite a shock !

I know full well someone will get the hump but is this really the right forum for this type of discussion its the second such post in a week and being a non blood sport type it leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth! and whilst i hear "everyone to their own" i wouldn't be suprised if i was the only member here who feels the same. p.s nothing at all personal James.

It's never been dark for over a week with everything covered in snow and now almost a full moon...we shot ducks on Friday night from 6pm-8.30pm, still ducks coming in when we left, almost like daylight!!! I shoot anywhere between 50-100+ per year, 95% after dark with a lamp...

:fie:  James must have been in tears when he added up the cost of shooting them two foxes?

I was calling foxes a couple of years ago in close country during the lambing season.

It was near dusk and I wasn't expecting a fox to come running between gorse bushes straight at me, hitting my leg before he realised what was making the noise.  Not sure who was the most surprised.  But he stopped to look back 50 yds past me and I then connected with a Vmax 55 gr.
