Perazzi Stock Bolt / Screw

I have a Perazzi MX8 and the stock is held in place with a large screw and not the normal hex bolt.

Has anyone come across this before, the slot in the screw is very narrow, too narrow for a normal screwdriver.

I just got the gun back from being multi choked by Nigel Teague who recommended I should tighten the stock bolt often but the supplied hex driver does not fit.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Grind a screwdriver to fit !

Thanks for that Mick, and yes I can do that. I just wondered if it was normal to have the stock secured with a screw. If it should be a hex bolt does that mean that someone has messed with it.

I thought exactly the same when i found one in my Kemen!! But so long as it does the job........ :wink:

Try visiting a motor store such as Halfords they do multiple screwdriver bit sets that will fit a socket bar long extension. A whole set of bits can be less than £10.

By heck you shop at posh shops, I bought a screwdriver set from Aldi with about 50 pieces in it, for £5.

Borrow one. Take out he nasty screw and replace with decent Allen bolt ( hex).

I called Mark Crudgington of George Gibbs gun makers near Marlborough on Saturday morning, he said bring the gun over and he would have a look for me.

I was there within 25 minutes and Mark also had problems getting the screw out, it just turned round and round. eventually he got it (an large alloy grub screw) out using old smooth bore augers and with it out came some old masking tape and a thick rubber grommet. underneath all this was the correct Perazzi hex bolt, so there was nothing wrong anyway. Neither Mark nor I know why this rubbish was jammed down the stock bolt hole.

Many thanks to Mark who's been making best London guns for 35 years for coming to my rescue. I had to put my mind at rest that I had not bought a crock of a gun.

Actually, I thought I had stripped the thread in mine, somehow a while back. The hex key just turned and turned. All that had happened was that rubber bits from the butt pad had fallen into the bolt hex! (I had a hole in the kickeez through which I could pass the long stock key and bits got shaved off over time and fell in). Panic over..

Obviously a previous owner had rather (very) crudely added ballast to the stock to alter the weight distribution, with a view to improving the handling.
