Dam!!! Just missed out on a new 3 lens set of Pilla Panther glasses on eBay for £213.......oh well, you win some, you loss some!!!

Aye, good luck with them tonky :D I've never had a pair of the puma's in my hand or on my face so I wasn't going to risk that sort of money to buy "unseen"

You can't go wrong with them as long as you have lense colours to suit. They are the right shape for shooting, most glasses are not I find. A set of three probably isnt the ones you need unforunately.. I bought my lenses individually. A yellow, a max orange and a dark.

The early versions have a hideously small and uncomfortable nose piece. You can buy the later type, or bodge on the rubber one from an Oakley m frame if you have it..

Darkside I'm only joking I haven't got £213 to spend on them plus I already have shooting classes .

Okay, please explain. I use sunglasses in any light conditions to stop me squinting. On a trap line a couple of weeks ago everybody else had orange Pilla glasses on. Just how do they keep light values down or are they to brighten conditions. I just cannot see ( no pun intended ) how wearing Pilla's on sunny days actually works. I never see Pilla dark sunglasses advertised.

I am sure it is simply me being dim but can someone please tell me.

Phil

Pillla do all shades from yellow, to `welding goggle` brown. The max orange 40 are usable in 90% of conditions I find. They allow 40% of the light in, so no squinting unless you are right into the sun. Presumably no DTL ground is set up south-facing, looking into the sun?

Hi Phil, all glasses block some light transmission. The 30,40,50 codes imply % blocked. Polarising blocks horizontal light reducing glare. Colouring provides contrast with the clay or the background. Pale yellow for example has 92% transmission for low light. So dark orange is used on bright days to highlight orange clays. Trench shooters have a liking for light purple which changes the sky colour. You can't predict someone's preferences but I notice blue eyed shooters are known as low light [that's LIGHT] shooters from their Nordic origins just as African, Italian and Spanish shooters have dark eye colours. That's contentious isn't it - will the racial police be after me?

Yes I've seen CSC3's reply now

Was Phil at Beverley yesterday?

Hi 40UP, no I did'nt go, believe it or not I was out testing a new electric outboard motor designed for kayaks. My other hobby is kayak fishing out at sea and the opportunity came up to field test these new German motors. Having now installed one I do not want to give it back at the end of the two month trial period----dont think I will handing it back, bend the credit card again.

Thank you for the explanation regarding the Pilla's

My wife, Trish and I are going over next Sat for some OT practice

Is it just me or is the Pilla UK website one of the poorest website's around!?!? All I seem to be able to get from it are the different styles in three lens sets and spare lenses all lined up in a row  Tryed to phone them, but the message says they are shut for a weeks stock-take........

Anyway, what colour/shade combination would cover all the bases??? I was thinking 40 max Orange, either 85? or 65? yellow and possibly a 25 Hi Def/brown......what's your thoughts?

Places like Avalon has a better site I think..

I have a yellow 65, max orange 40 and a 15 brown. Covers all bases For me.

I have to be honest, I have a set of 65, 40 and 20 and 2 frames that were offered to me by a friend at a very good price.

I started out with a cheap set, then Oakleys, Then HiDefPilla. Yes they are bloody good, optically true and do enhance colours and can make a really rubbish weather day look great.

I don't regret buying them for one minute and would recommend them in a heartbeat; however they are not going to turn you into a George Digweed overnight ;)

Talked to the Pilla importer today, nice guy, says he would send me 5-6 different lenses to see what I prefered, post the ones I dont want back and he's refund my card for the ones I dont keep. So, what 5-6 Puma lenses should I try??? I know Clever's vote...........

Decided to go for a set of these myself, Spoke to a very nice lady at Mulliner Guns who gave me some top advice :D Am going down there on Saturday morning before OLSS to try a few different styles and lenses :D good excuse to have a look at some K guns too :.:
