Hi

I'm a complete skeet novice and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for the best way to practice skeet. I'm trying to work out a system to make the best of my time on the range. At the moment I was thinking of:

1. Shoot a full round of skeet (warm up)

2. Shoot a set number of targets on each station e.g 5 high house 5 low house.

3. Shoot a set number of pairs on each station e.g 5 on each station where a pair would be shot

4. Finish with a full round.

Questions:

1. Does this seen sensible or are there more established methods people use?

2. This would be about 180-190 shots, would this be too much

3. Is it better to focus on one station at a time and if so is there a good one to start on? E.g. Shoot 50 high house and 50 low house on station 4 as a session?

Looking forward to your opinions and comments

Hello,

I would in the first instance suggest that you look at getting some coaching.

You can with your coach work out a program which not only looks at the individual stations but also covers other important issues which could affect your progress.

Such as gun fit, eye dominance and technique.

Going on to the range and shooting 200 targets will not be a lot of fun and could make it harder for a coach at a later date to improve your technique.

Good luck and enjoy your shooting!

One I have used in the past is.

Round1

3x Single of the incoming bird on all stations

3x Single each of target on 4

Total: 24 targets

Round 2

As above but outgoing birds.

Total: 24 targets

Round 3

2x Doubles on 1&2

2x Doubles on 4 (High and then low first)

2x Doubles on 6&7

Total: 24 targets

Round4

Full round as normal.

Use the spare for more pairs on 4

Now I mainly shot full rounds or specific station practise when needed.

First off try and find a good coach who knows what they are doing and can relay tips and informations to you well.

Then just start by shooting only singles high and then single lows

After shoot the full station without doubles

Once you get it down go for doubles and shoot full rounds

Whenever you feel as if you cant hit a clay just shoot that clay over and over.

It will take time but you will become good at it. Good luck!!
