probably been done before but mrs jasper has new prescription which the optictian has recomended that she uses for shooting .so what are the options. ? do contacts under the the normal oakleys or the like work?or do you have to go for some of those hideously expensive hi-defs with inserts.or maybe something else???

your thoughts please.

I've used prescription Oakleys for years and have always got on well with them. I'd say get her to try a few styles for fit as some sit better on the face than others depending on your dimensions.

Before I was lasered, I used the Top Gun system. A clip on insert that fits behind the eye protectors and I found it very good, and quite cheap. I sent the insert to glasses2you.com and they made and fitted the lenses for less than £30.00. Much cheaper that any high street optician.

Same here, Top Gun Premier Plus glasses at around £25 and then sent the inserts off to Glasses Direct who charged me £25 for prescription lenses including delivery back to me, for the price I don't think you can beat them.

I tried some with an insert, total waste of money for me as my pupil was not in the center of the lens. Really best done by an optician, I went to Specsavers they sell lenses there suitable for shooting, you just need to pick a large frame.

Then you need to shoot with a vertical head, or ask for the lenses to be ground so that if you tilt your head forward everything is still in focus.

If you have some old frames that you like send them to SPECS-BY-POST and have them reglazed. You can have single vision lenses fitted with tint ( yellow, brown etc ) for £20 plus postage, ok they are not interchangable but they do an excellent service.

she has oakley m frames already , but needs a +2.5 prescription and the oakleys only go to +2.0 says the optictian

thanks for all your replies

Have a word with Oakley direct, the opticians don't want to do it because they will be too much hassle for them. Also look at different styles- I couldn't get on with prescription M frames but love my flak jackets. Also think you can out stronger prescriptions in them....
