Hello

I am in the process of looking to buy a first gun.  I recently obtained my licence and have been looking around to see what is about.  As a left hander it is difficult to find something suitable but I have noticed there are quite a few Silma M70 guns on gun trader brand new for around £650. This seems a good price for a new gun and is around about the budget that i had in mind, but I can't seem to find any reports on these guns anywhere.   Does anyone have any advice on the matter?

Well all I can say is that my first shotgun was a Silma and it spent more time being fixed than it spent shooting! Spend a bit more and get a proper gun!!

Thanks Les, I had a feeling that this may be the case.  What kind of gun would you suggest for a beginner to learn with.  I am restricted on choice due to being left handed.

Leftie guns are around. Call somebody decent like Doveridge and see what they have..

definitely agree with that.

Have bought 2 lefties from Premier Guns, they always have a good stock of new and used ones. plus you can try before you buy

They are closed on Mondays, but don't go on Tuesday either as the shooting ground is closed, so you wont be able to try anything. Open late Wednesday though.

Never heard of em
They looked OK and didn't shoot too bad as far as I remember, but everyone I knew that had one had lots of reliability issues with them. The dealer was so disgusted about it that he actually gave me my money back on it against a used Browning Citori which was a great gun!

I have spoken to a dealer who informs me that Miroku guns are very straight in the stock with no cast and are an ambidextrous gun.  Is this true?

Well not exactly!!!! Firstly it depends on the model and if it's been altered or not. As standard I know the trap guns have very little cast and I've known a few lefties that used standard right hand Mirokus and shot them well enough. The exact amount of cast does vary a little from gun to gun too.
