I'm finding skeet lots of fun. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm getting better.

There's a skeet doubles registered up this way in a couple of weeks. Will that be twice as much fun as skeet or is it a completely different atmosphere? I thought it might be rather fun but my first sporting registered was a bit miserable because of AA people unappreciative of the slow beginner.

Yeah it should be fun Liz, moves you along quicker than normal ESK and it's good if you get on a squad with a good rhythm,Edit: have a box of shells practice on station 3 & 5 shooting pairs as that's what you will not have shot yet!

Liz,

You thinking of shooting a Skeet Doubles as your first registered skeet event?

If so......

Be aware it can be a little fast paced as you only shoot ONE PAIR (two targets) and move - you have the oddity of shooting a pair on stations 3 and 5 instead of singles in normal skeet. Plus on the first pass over station 4 you will shoot HIGH HOUSE first and on the second pass back round the layout you will shoot LOW HOUSE first on station 4.

Also as it is PAIRS you will shoot the following

Rnd 1 - 24 targets

Rnd 2 - 26 targets

Rnd 3 - 24 targets

Rnd 4 - 26 targets

On the 26 target rounds you will shoot station 1 at the end of the round and finish there.

I would suggest you shoot a practice round to get used to the sequence. IMO Skeet Doubles is harder than normal skeet - so allow for this and do not get disheartened.

liz go and injoy your self dont worry about the other shooters just take your own time dont let the others rush you round  ok

Thanks, y'all.

My reasoning on this is that (1) getting used to competition is no bad thing, especially not when I've got to go to that Nottingham thingy the following week (2) getting someone to button for you is a pain, and this will take care of that (3) my pairs always need more practice than singles.

I appreciate the notes on not feeling rushed. I shall make sure that I ask to be squadded with no one higher than B class!

That doesn't bother me per se, but I have heard tell of people getting grumbly if you take too long on your turn. I can't say I'm of any mind to take any notice of that kind of behaviour though. Nothing makes me miss like rushing a setup!

Sod em Liz....you have paid your money....you have your time on the peg...don't be rushed by anyone.

We are having a go at Bisley (county championships) next Sunday....I am taking my young 12 yr old star who I hope will beat me.

If you want to join us feel free (we got your £2 levy)

You pay your money, you try your best, what ever happens happens.....and God helps anyone who tries to rush me

Thank you, Nicola. That's really kind of you. Actually, the doubles I'm talking about is then so I can't but I do appreciate the offer.

Are you coming up to Nottingham for it Liz? If you are not booked on with anyone let me know and I'll find you a nice squad to shoot with.

J :)

I'm booked in at Nottingham on Sunday afternoon on the 20th. I have no idea about the squadding, but I'm seeing people from the Country there. I do appreciate the offer, thank you.

Hi Liz,

You are squadded with a couple of your county shooters on the 20th but I meant the skeet doubles the week before - if you are shooting that one with us then I can find you a nice squad for that.

Hope that makes more sense!

Thanks

Julia :)

Yes, it does, thank you. The 13th October one I'm going to is at Cambridge, my local club. I booked in this afternoon and have a slot on a completely empty squad. This means that anyone else who joins me can't complain too much about my beginner presence because I was there first!
