does anybody know of electronic ear defenders that do not hit the stock?

i have a set of Deben ones that work great but the moulded cut out is at the top and i can't use something that hits the stock.

i have a set of custom hocks/passive filtered custom plugs but i suffer really badly from Tinitus especially in my left ear to the point that it is rare that something is loud enough to get over it.

the right plug seems fine but the left on tends to agrivate my ear and just doesn't seem to do the job.

thinking of getting a new set with maybe just a solid one for the left ear but i would really like a set of eardefenders as well to protect the whole ear as you can get noise through from the back of the ear.

any suggestions or people have similar difficulties?

Howard Leight ones are quite slim, I use these with Howard leight foam plugs in as well and with the volume cranked up, I can still hear, the plugs cut down wind noise amplification which is a pain with amplified over ears and if I do have a loose gun mount moment and catch the stock and knock the ear defenders at least there is still some protection, and as you say it protects the outer ear bone. Seeks like the best solution to me, and keeps ears warm.  The advice I have had from audiology specialist was that over ear gave more protection.

check out Pure Tone for Cens. They do anti- tinnitus ear plugs. Can have different one in each ear. Specsavers use Pure Tone. Just got a set work great for me. Got Pro in  one ear solid in other.

I used custom made plugs for years. But when I left them at home and borrowed a pair muffs the difference was amazing. I bought the peltors the next week and have used them since.

they're not cheap, but the peltor comtac xp's that I have are excellent.

short, slim cup and exceedingly comfortable. about the only half descent bit of kit that that the military get issued from what I hear....

so i have looked at the peltor comtac xp which seem to be lumpy great things with the mike bulge at the bottom so it will hit the stock so they in no way fit the description of what i was asking for.

they are far fatter than the debben ones i already have,i was looking for something thinner/scallopped at the bottom to clear the stock.

have i already got the thinnest ones?

maybe i should just try getting a solid one for my left ear though i would really of preferred some cans?

any ideas on cost of a single solid custom earplug?

the problem being with defenders is that when i mount it hits the stock every time and i find it rather distracting, might be easier to get my ears moved further up my head

Yep, I know what you mean, the advice is was given by a coach was 'don't let it distract you' ... Yeah! Thanks.. That's a bit like saying 'just stop it raining' .. Although since I have noticed I knock the stock less (or notice it less)

I have suffered with 'clanging' ear cans for years, especially as I use a Miroku Trap gun for sporting and mostly shoot gun down. I did try the Howard Leights and found them to be great. No stock banging, I can hear conversation and they are around £50. Since using them my Cens digital have been resigned to their case.

Using Howard Leights as well. Gave them a test on clays - Shooting MK70 gun down  - using them for hunting only now, since I found passive protection better suits me on clays.

I have tried several types of ear protection for 12g, rimfire and centrefire use, and I have decided that the cheap and cheerful silicone plug-on-a-rope type, available from ebay etc, are by far the best.

Not being an electronic genius or anything, but, surely if you turn them off or remove the batteries, they become 'passive' ?

westley you ar right, tho I found simple passive are lighter and have better fit + I have all my shootign gear in my bag to pick it up on my way out, so I don't have to think about whereabouts of my Leights from the morning hunt etc...

ok... you've looked at them. was it a picture? or have you handled a set? have you tried them?

I can assure you, they are not 'lumpy great things' and they are scalloped at the bottom, below the microphones, to accommodate a good gun mount. not once have they ever made contact with the stock on any one of the umpteen guns I have used.

you asked for opinions of electronic ear defenders that don't hit the stock, so I gave you an opinion of the ones that I own. I fail to see how that does in no way fit the description of what you were asking for... but you know what? I wont bother next time.

don't ask for help/opinions and then seemingly throw it back at someone. especially when you haven't even tried the product suggested.

wind your neck in...i know what i have and i can see what they are relative to that.

seen as i experience my mount and you don't i think i probably have an idea about what will and what won't work for me.

peoples ears are not all in the same position on there heads and heads are not necessarily the same shape.

please post an image of these "slim" cup ones as the only ones i can find are not.

try to remember this is a forum for thoughts, suggestions and views, people don't have to agree with you just because you believe you are right!

making definitive statements without all the facts is idiocy note i put "seem" to be lumpy great things, not "are" lumpy great things.

saw some howard leights yesterday that may fit the bill, what are they like for battery life/reliability?
