Has anyone got or used off the shelf sonic ear plugs if so which ones and are they any good.

i use a set of acu-life sonic II ear plugs cheap and cheerful, I find they are comfortable and good because you can hear your shooting buddies talking better but my only gripe with them is on a windy day they tend to be a bit noisy due to the wind blowing across the little hole in the end of them... other than that I think they are better than foam ones

how well do they work on gunshot, do they cut out the blast well enough ?

yeah just as well as foam plugs in my opinion, I'm sure they aren't as good as a decent set of defenders but some of them go for silly money and I find defenders just get in the way

I agree I don't like muffs, currently have custom plugs but want sonic so I can here me mates tell me how cack I am on crossers ?

thanks for the info will look into them

They're not particularly good. I remember seeing an earplug review a few years ago. They fell far below the required noise reduction standard.

Either wear muffs or have some custom plugs made. They only cost a little more than 'off the shelf' brands.

Howard Leight 'Max' (SNR 37) or 'Laserlite' (SNR 35) off the shelf ear plugs have come out on top in various independent reviews, (as long as they are worn correctly) beating both ear defenders & moulded products...a quick search on the Internet will give you various H&SE reports. In a nut shell, not all products are made equal, not all manufacturers tell the truth with regards to their SNR rating & price is no indication of the level of protection offered...I was surprised to learn that the moulded products tested generally didn't fare that well against much cheaper products. (Stopped using mine on the strength of it)

If I find the test reports again, I'll post a link.

Got the CENS passive and find them to be very good. Had sonic plugs before them, they cut out the gun report almost as well but found them to be very uncomfortable.
