Much milder day yesterday - although a bit breezy. Met with the squad for pig rolls at about 9.45 - Me, TeePee, Jem, Bob_P, Wendy_P plus SPR and his friend Michael... kitted up for a start at 10.30.
We started out on the Well layout, behind the club house... with our ears ringing about this one being a toughie. Peg 1 had a quick trap bird going up the hill - low, fast and flat - needed quick eyes and hands to get on this. Other pegs had some fast, flat, edgy crossers - with Peg 3 having a skeet double as the sim pair (shot from well behind peg 4 or 5) which caused a few problems.
Next was the valley layout with the Southdown standard rocket being thrown on Peg 1, and the legendary rabbit in the bottom of the valley (30yds? 40 yds?) on peg 2. Peg 3 was on the bank with a couple of big boomers. Notable here was Michael on our squad shooting an excellent 24, missing only the rabbit in the singles - great shooting and really good to watch.
A squad of 7 made our day a little rushed - and we had no time for breaks in between layouts - so we were straight onto the Field layout at the end of the lane. I straighted the first leg - which was a nice set of crossers and loopers, peg 2 had a mini which caught a bunch of us out - and then peg 3 had a lovely driven battue and a crosser off the high tower which I didn't get close to.
We finished up on the Lane layout - with a couple of nice sim pairs to catch us out - peg 3 was shot with the sky getting very dark and I was last for doubles - as I got in the hoop we could hear this strange rushing noise as a massive hailstorm hit us. I shot my doubles with hail bouncing off my glasses and everyone packing and running around us. Managed to miss 3 out of 4 in that.... but happy I hit the big edgy crosser at last!
Fantastic day all round, great squad - I shot 16, 18,19 and then 15 on the last - which possibly should have been 17 without the hailstorm... the day was fun, although just ten mins for a coffee and sammich along the way would have been a bonus! Great layouts and good organisation as usual from Shaun and the team.
