spaniel close hunting training

my cocker hunts quite well (I think) she quarters naturally and turns on a whistle reasonably well but sometimes pulls out a bit.

does anyone have any training tips to keep her hunting close. ??

Many years ago I remember watching an old Keeper tuck 1 front leg into the collar on his Springer, that had the desired effect I seem to recall  !

don't fancy that and I suspect my cocker would fancy the idea even less.
