Barbury Challenge today. Phew.. scores pretty low.
I started on their pool shoot. 12 birds from three traps.
A bird was a fully edge on 60-70 yard fast crosser / away from left side.
B bird a teal going away. The trap was about 40 yards out, so 60-70 yards kill point.
C bird was thankfully a fairly tame 20 yard looper.
7/12 was my score and wasn't that bad. The rest of my squad only hit the C bird, scoring 4.
The main event.. 100 bird sporting. I shot it in a squad of four. The first few stands were very close fiddly targets, then it all became somewhat longer. A few good stands but mostly distant edgey targets. To me it had the feel of some groundsmen setting up a larf of a clay display and no real thought for it being a decent competition course. About stand 8 I finally straighted a 5 pair stand and I kid you not, the red arrows (or something very similar) flew over just as I finished. We did laugh.. that was the only the time we laughed. I did shoot two stands more badly than I should, but my 76 would only have been 80, 82 on a good day.
You can view it as a bit of fun I suppose, but I saw some upside down smiles on faces.. I think Barbury forgot to entertain the crowd..
