I hit 9 on stand 1 but stand 9 was one of the ones where I missed 5, tried them both ways and had no trouble powdering the first one but the second bird was well outside reasonable comfort zone for any sort of consistency.

Ended up taking the crossing target first on Stand 1 after missing the first two pairs and hitting that fairly well, but struggled to get to the second one while it was dropping behind the tree. Only managed one pair. On 9 I was having no problem getting on the second bird when taking the teal first, just me rushing after a no-bird that messed the stand up for me. As for the crosser on 10, no idea where I was on that. Just kept giving it more and more, but didn't hit it once.

I dropped 2 on stand 11 at Court Farm - I did not even notice one was a midi .. Dropped all 4 of the 2nd bird on stand 3 and 3 on stand 9. Other than that not too bad finishing on 84 which I was happy enough with as always find Court Farm the tougher of the two Horne grounds.I'd rate it as hard today :blink: can't readily think of any gimme's, made worse by making certain stands simmo when they'd have been hard enough on report. I was 5 down on two different stands todayso not too devastated to end on 82 which was one behind AA lead score by a very good shooter when I left !
Also shot non reg Court Farm today which was nice enough, let 4 misses on a wind affected overhead pair of std/midi rob me of possible place.

Sportrap at Barbury, it was both Glos & Wilts County Champs, weather was wet & cold and had affected entries, ours at 2pm was last one of day so nowhere near full, personally i was tidy enough on two layouts, excelled on one and dire on one, managed to missread the menu board / simos three or four times, more down to not shooting sportrap often, my last sportrap shoot was here 12 months ago and in political speak Ive made significant improvement ? Stuart Rudling 92 high gun I believe, good shoot, good ground, good company, horrible weather

Ian Coleys this morning. Not feeling it, even before I left home today, but booked in and travelling with a mate so went along. Despite feeling a tad unlively, my poor 81 was also the result of four or five very tough targets. I never touched the orange away on stand 1. I suspect HG will be 93 or so, despite a good quality entry.

One also shot Coleys, had a few brain farts on what was a challenging course, very sombre atmosphere there today, and no not many smiles, AAA & AAs apart did think that one or two stands for the rest of us were a lucky dip, they have one more shoot and Im hoping to take a positive from that one, as a C class shooter dont feel, for myself, that I managed to find one today,

Like the fine gentlemen posting before me I also shot at Coleys today. The course was set by someone different this week and it certainly had a different style.
You certainly had to work for every Clay today. The only kind stands being the pair of crows (which I still managed to drop one on) and the simo low chondel and floaty incomer.
I didn't touch one of the going away targets on stand 1. Felt that was a tad firmer than it needed to be but still and interesting presentation.
I finished on 74/100 which I'm not displeased with considering the scores on the board.

That makes 3 of us then as I didn't hit the orange on stand 1 either... Until I asked to try it after we'd finished, and hit 2 of the bloody things consecutively! ?

I watched somebody else shoot it and it was all about shooting just under it (or guaranteeing not to flick over it). I would love to call it an unfair target but my mate never missed it! But together with those slow 70 yard crossers and that screaming orange quartering thing, there were certainly enough challenges today I felt.

I realised afterwards that I'd misread how to tackle it, and was also looking at the wrong trap; didn't realise there were two with orange clays there next to each other! ?? Pretty chuffed with the 70 yard crossers; hit 4/8 of those tricky buggers! But yes, I agree a little too testing overall.

So what was the method for the first target on stand 1?
I was winding back to 2feet in front of the trap, letting it pass my gun and 'swinging through' and shooting in front.

I would say hold further out, move gently as it passed the muzzle then shoot its bottom edge.

EJC today, pleasant morning in good company, I have however developed full blown brainfartitus ? as in my mind dropped too many targets and for those that went i really struggled on stands 3 (both) 9 (both) and the floaty crosser on stand 11, no tantrums, more a resigned grimmace at my own shortcomings, so thats it no more shooting for me, weather permitting see some of you sunday ?

Just back from EJC. Seemed to be either a gimme stand or a tough one and nothing in between. Probably could have done with not having the two toughest stands 6 and 8 as 5 pairs. I nailed most of the straightforward stands dropping just 2 from 6. Stand 1 I could not hit the 2nd bird no matter which way around I shot it. Dropped 13 over 6 & 8 including an accidental discharge between targets to compound my frustration. Was relieved to see my score started with a 7 but only just - 71.

as I'm working this weekend I'm off to orston gun club tomorrow Friday 8th sept to meet up with a few old buddies , we like to compare our medication talk Volvos and decide who's lawn is best then we actually shoot , my advice don't subscribe to old age ! keep pulling the trigger .

Shot Hepworth Hall today with four friends, 120 bird layout shot first with OU followed by same again with semi automatic which finished with 3 birds simmo's where much fun was had, more fun truth be told than the "main" course. I shot 105 with my own gun which isn't particularly special because in all honesty most of the birds were just too close for my liking. Yes there were a couple of decent Teal and the odd long crosser but sadly for me not the most inspiring round of clays of late. The stand over the pond was very good but thinking back there were 3 different rabbit targets on the course all well inside 20 yards ! Also two stands featured a low incomer which you had to try to miss and some stands featured 3 in your face clays. Don't get me wrong I would shoot them again rather than go to work but at £55 quid a throw I wouldn't consider them value for money. Oh and 10 birds per stand which just doesn't feel classy.
I had to shoot the semi round with a borrowed 32" Beretta Parallel Target which felt like a 35" OU :blink: so inevitably struggled to start but got the hang of it a bit more towards the middle and end of the course finishing on 92, some of the 3 birds simmo's were borderline and I'd say stand 12 was almost unstraightable because the final bird was so far past the cage most people refused to give the required movement to the gun for fear of hitting the barrel against the metal cage. If this was a TV programme where you could pay what you felt was the right money I see it as £80 with no tip.

Also did EJC and also struggled with Stands 6 and 8. Blanked 6 and didn't get on the overhead until the last pair on 8, although I was fairly pleased with 3 from 5 on the crosser on that stand. Otherwise it was mostly a day of 6's and 7's, finished with a 67.
Oh, and the green target on stand 12 had me totally fooled. Looked like it was crossing much more than it was. I ended up hitting the last one by shooting straight at it and then kicked myself for misreading it.

Yes everybody you spoke to said "6 and 8". I shot this shoot with my Perazzi which I haven't shot for almost a year. I couldn't tell if the shoot was deceptive or more likely it's odd to pick up an old gun! Just wanted to clear my head by changing; but a bit daft to go straight in to a registered.. I missed some easy looking stuff with it for sure, while hitting longer ones pretty well. Only missed the first battue on stand 6 but only found the orange dropper once! Needed a ton underneath. Finished on 80 and felt it might have been 85 with my Blaser.. 93 won it I believe.
