Yes I know there is no such thing because everyone is different build and see's the target differently and all guns are different............. blah blah blah .............. but humour me.

For no particular reason I am intrigued as to what is the most "common" drop at comb for ABT, UT, OT guns.

My one is 34 - 44 which is lower than I prefer but mr gun dealer said when I chopped my 28 - 34 in that it was very high and that 34 - 44 was "standard trap drop" well I have never been one for looking at other peoples so I have no idea what there's measure....ooh err

Right I have shown you mine now show me yours ....

As far as I know, my old 3800 is 35-45 and 365 pull. I've used it for OT, ABT, UT and also DTL. For a laugh I even shot a bit of Skeet and Sporting with it back in the 90's too! It's probably a little low and a little short to be honest, but it seems work well enough for me. It's also fairly light by today's standrards, it only goes about 3.5 (ish) kilos.

Les

Thanks for info not much different to mine then. Its allways felt a bit low as i have allways been used to a high comb however i have resisted thus far to have it bodged as i do not want to start fiddling or to chop my lovely wood.

When I had my DT10 it was way too high when I got it, so I had it made to the dimensions of the 3800,then it worked fine!  I did the same with various MX8's too, but alas they did not work fine at all, but I still don't know why!

Ian, the only advantage for me as far a slightly low stocks are concerned, is the fact that I have a bit of room to push my cheek a bit lower if I need to. Basically on days where the low birds are being pushed down by a tail wind, I just see a bit less rib and and put the beads so they touch each other in a tight figure of eight. On days where the birds lift very quickly I will put a gap between the beads. That's also why I like two beads mate!!!!

Good points les. I dont have or like mid bead and tend to mount and call quickly so dont really see how much rib anyway. But i see your reasoning.

Yeah, a lot of guys hate those mid beads, but I've had the things on every gun I've owned. It started when I had my first lessons, the instructors guns had mid beads on them, as did the guns of my mentors, so it sorta stuck with me. I have bought various guns over the years that did not have mid beads fitted when I bought them, but I always got them put on pretty quickly.

Monte Carlo ?
yes but dropping towards the rear by 10mm

i actually prefer standard stocks for more forward weight distribution.

Hmmmmmmm  I've always wondered why people exchange this information since it is so particular to person/gun make/ model.  As I've mentioned before I have one Perazzi Mirage that I've acquired two additional barrels for.  The rib heights range from flat to medium low and regular low sorta Mirage standard.  All three do however have the same height rib/bead at the muzzle.  But each would have very different measurements to the comb.  All that changes is the amount of rib I see if I look at it since all three have the same poi.  Since the barrels are different lengths they obviously do not have the same mathematically calculated poi for any given comb height, but the day I get good enough to tell a couple mm diff  at 30m+ will be one to remember.

Well, anyway.  The measurements may give you a start point but if it ain't your face and the same make/model/rib it may not even be close.  Or it might be spot on.  Prolly not something you'd want to guess about.

just a thot - JMO of course and YMMV

Yes you are correct.

I was purely interested in the manufacturers "off the shelf" default setting, for no particular reason.

I'm not sure about other brands, but IIRC the Beretta 682 had four different heights that were coded by a paint dot (red/green/yellow/white in no particular order) in the action inletting area.  I have no idea what the #'s were and it seems like the red was the lowest but that could easily be wrong.  Perazzi may have some "usual" dimensioned stock but there is a looong list of options and they will make anything for a price.  And Pguns have so many rib types that the listed dimensions really are not much of a guide as the two current action types will each accommodate a wide range of stocks.  Pretty much a mess unless you already know sorta what you're looking for.  But, there is usually one in the lot that will fit hahaha  if you can find it.............. tho the adventure of searching can get well into tedious.

Must do things differently in the USA cos we dont have that choice, you get what your given unless its a factory order...then you get what your given anyway. :)

I presume that you're referring to Beretta since I have to believe that Perazzi will make anything for anyone anywhere if yas got the $.  I only have one Beretta O/U here anymore and I don't recall if it had the paint dot in it or not.  Why Beretta would do one thing here and another there seems bad management/marketing.  If you want your product to max success I'd think you'd support it best as possible especially if the scheme is already active in one market.  Then too I only have Beretta tales from the early '90s since that was the last time I purchased one so things may have altered here as well.  Could've been one of those "good old days" things that are no more hahaha
