Evening folks, I picked up an MK60 at the start of this year for game and pigeon shooting. It is currently choked at a tight 1/4 and normal 3/4. I usually shoot 1/2 and 1/2 with fibre wads. I am in a position where I can get it altered while I'm not using it a lot before harvest and winter.

The question is, do i fit thin wall teagues or briley's and screw in my favoured 1/2 and 1/2, open the 3/4 out to 1/2 and leave the 1/4 alone, or just leave it well alone and get cracking with 3/4 and 1/4

Main concerns are, the cost of teagues or briley are half the value of the gun (But can afford them if the right option)and the cleaning of them. Will an opened out miroku rust. If I leave it alone will I get half way through the season and feel it's too tight on top.

Thanks folks

Pattern both barrels with your preferred cartridge choice & see what results you get then decide ;)

Don't waste your money doing any of those. You will not be able to tell the difference I promise you.

Choke is a diversion to concentration, it is the invention of the Devil, a curse, a plague.

Do not waste a penny on changing anything, do not waste a moment of time thinking about it .

Find a cartridge that you have confidence in and shoot the gun a lot to get used to the gun and cartridge combination.

ANY gun will rust if you neglect it bored out choke or not.

If Teagues or Briley's are half the value of the gun, if it is of such concern to you, part exchange the gun for a MK70 or a multichoked gun or one with a choke constriction to your preference.

Shoot more , think less.

When I first started pigeon shooting we used 32g shells as a rule and combined with decoying them close in it meant I got away with CYL and 1/4 in my Laurona, as time has gone on I have settled on either 1/4 or preferably 3/8 and 3/4 for most of my decoying or even flighting where you can select the right barrel if you have time.

I think your current choke set up is perfect.

I think I'm just going to leave it as it is. It is only a grade one so can't really justify the teagues at almost £500 when I bought the gun for £800. 3/4 isn't a million miles away from 1/2 in any case.

Thanks for the input folks , I''ll crack on as she is.

Good idea. Try some different cartridges. There is a big pattern size difference between various anyway!

You have made the best decision. Shoot it for a while, if you think it is "hitting a bit ard" use felt wads, that should open the pattern a bit. If you are still unhappy you can always get the chokes eased out. You can always make em wider, but can be a problem 'makin em tighter'. Suggest you use cartridges to tighten or open the pattern until you are certain as to what to do.
