Before I got my lovely pre-owned ( pre - loved? ,second hand :) ha ha! ) MX8 my UT scores were trundling along at about an average of 75% ish and not changing enter the P gun and my most recent scores are coming in at 85% ish and last weekend I shot a 67 ex 75 in early thirties temperatures which equated to nearer 45C under the stand 23,24 and 20 the last round was just too much and sort of spoiled a good score a bit but thems the breaks shoot in France expect to fry on occasions.

Is this the gun or me ? Combination obviously but the level of confidence you / I get from shooting the MX8 is amazing and for less than the cost of a  new Beretta 692 or indeed my Browning XTR its a total bargain. When I finished shooting my second round last week I was given a handshakes by the runners up in vet and sup vet classes at the world UT champs who went on to say the difference the guns has made to my shooting has amazed them ! gratifying indeed. Hope this is not too much like trumpet blowing I am really just relating the difference the right gun can make to a shooter... and this is a simple second hand purchase of the internet without any pre try out or stock fitting, just been  very lucky I suppose ?

BIt of luck, bit of new gun syndrome??

Don't worry it will all come crashing back down to normal soon!!   :sarcastic:

Only joking!!!!!     Sometimes it's what you need to provoke an improvement. It may be physical or mental but if it works........  Long may you continue.

The P gun. :girlcrazy:

I have been  shooting trap for 6 years now and have steadily been moving up from C class but could not  quite get to the next level stuck in B for ages. My dt10 is one hell of a gun but a certain Pro Trap  MX8 came along, 6 months on A class DTL  just shot 100/298 last weekend, Never liked Ball Trap that much but now last time out i straightened the last round and scored 88 to take 2nd in the competition. Enjoying OT as well now.

Its one hell of a bit of kit and confidence is flying, yes they are a lot of money but i do feel you get what you pay for.

Would i change it, no not a chance that"s me for now and looking forward to better things hopefully.

Well done #2749 that is a real result! I think once you get the feel for them you are made. I have made almost constant improvements in my scoring , there have been blips but I sussed the problem and since then it has been forward again with my scores permanently 20 something at UT which I think I am going to concentrate on from now on as ABT and OT competitions are quite rare and DTL does not interest me. In truth I probably need a stock made for me but for the present I am going to see where this gun takes me in terms of my average scores.

Just to hijack a trap thread as a hedge monkey.. Is it the case that the gun is a bigger part of making or breaking the scores in trap than in sporting? There is a fairly limited function in trap, so its all about getting that spot on? In sporting, there is so much variety and change in the targets/courses that it is much harder to isolate the gun as an individual element of the scores.

Just a thought.

Confidence in gun = confidence in ones ability. Job done.

Any doubts about anything gun or technique and game over.

probably correct. Trap is about repetition so any problem with gun fit and or technique is quickly shown.

Yes Ian and I have had the odd blip due to a problem that I think I have now solved. I think you are right about repetition for me it is feet, mount, gun hold, eyes soft focus then call. I found that what I was doing was when getting tired I was mounting my gun sloppily and thus missing a lot of targets so scores were going from 22 and 23 to 17 and 18! I have now redoubled my efforts to concentrate on the routine and have as I said hopefully eliminated the glitch. Many think that shooting trap is easy because of the fact that the discipline involved targets that are broadly doing the same thing but, as you know, the concentration levels required to continually achieve good scores are very demanding... in my opinion anyway. Which is why I will probably never be a really good trap shooter, I seldom can hold it together for the entire round although I am getting closer to the goal :) but even shooting four 24's will win nothing at trap!

John - I have to say that it has been a real pleasure to see you gain so much.  For me there is no question that the right gun can make great differences.  Some things are simply a better component in the game than others and you certainly have come across one that fits the slot called gun.  And you seem long past the new gun syndrome stage so .......   WFO!

I don't believe that the gun is more important in any particular discipline.  ips may well have the answer.  But it is a simple truth that the gun has to integrate with the meat no matter what form the targets take for the best performance.  Great shooters may be able to shoot junk guns but it will always be easier with the right one (whatever the brand).

Perazzis may seem the best tool for many and that is not surprising since they've never been intended to be anything but the best competition gun.  Starting with the clean sheet of paper a loooong time ago.  And the results speak for themselves.

just sayin'
