Hi, Following a soaking at Hodnet today I came home, gun out of slip and left to dry for a bit and just had a good clean with rods, spray etc etc.I noticed as I took it to bits that the forend seemed tight coming off the barrels. Seems the same putting it back on - normally I can just slip it on, flip the switch, job done. Struggling tonight.Water in the wood causing it to swell slightly??Gun is currently in a breakdown gun safe, action one side barrels the other with forend fitted. Am I doing right assuming as the wood dries it will de-swell and be fine again? Any thoughts appreciated - not come across this before!?! (Never shot in rain for so long though, only had a shower before!) Jon.

Hi Jon If it's all got really wet, then it could be swelling of the wood. I'd be reluctant to put it back in the safe overnight if it's still wet. Too little air circulation. Better off letting it all dry out in a well ventilated area, but not in direct heat. Also be careful drying out your gunslip after a wet day, and avoid putting a wet gun in it if you can. Bob

Happens to mine sometimes, just take the forend off and leave it in a warm room to dry out or an airing cupboard, don,t put it on direct heat such as a radiator though!

Thanks to you both for the quick replied - taking forend out now. It can sit in my bedroom! Gun slip already hung over towel radiator in bathroom! /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

Open and muzzle end down I hope. ?Or the moisture rises into the muzzle end and stays there if you get it wrong. That's why so many guns have a little rust around the muzzles./wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-wink.gif

excellent suggestion. A little warmth and dryness will bring it back to normal...
