I guess only Ian uderstands
absolutely Charlie. We are on the same sheet, you will not have time to suffer freeze if you attack the shot with positivity, hang on the shot in order to ensure you do not miss and you will never be absolutely sure in your own mind hence the hesitation due to fear of failure hence the inability to physically let go and pull the trigger.

simple cure is to "just shoot the thing" with no predetermined outcome other than seeing the target break.

Charlie, we could hold seminars and make a killing but would have to give it some phsyco babble name....... :)

ps

the majority if not all freeze is on first shot that is because second shot is always taken more instinctively, go figure.

the feeling is mutual Cyril. With your wealth of experience if you say in some cases it is recoil then I accept it as fact.

It's been my experience that recoil issues are gun fit issues.  If the gun does not fit properly and is not mounted properly then the entire activity is an uphill battle.  I found Michael Yardley and Bruce Buck to most informative and (for me) right on for the proper fit.  but that could just be me.

Ian, I think that the dog collar thing would be central to our seminars.  Hesitate on the shot - ZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!

ha, yep e collar for trigger freeze, you may be onto something there bud.

absolutely agree re gun fit and recoil there is no excuse to suffer these days.

Been said already by some and I am going to reinforce it today  VISUAL  PROBLEMS ! I suffer from a eye dom issue which I try to get past by using the opaque tape method. It works reasonably well but when the light is bad you suffer because at the point of taking the shot you are working with only one eye to see the target. As well as that when looking for the target the off eye can be hindered from seeing the target early as well. Now on Saturday the light was quite bad but not uniformly so ie the sky was very dark grey in parts but in other parts more a whitish grey. Anyway one of the targets was a fast high right to left. I could see the target reasonably clearly and watched it as I swung my gun BUT just at the very point of needing to pull the trigger the sky changed suddenly from dark to light grey. My ability to see the target was very badly affected for an instant although and I could see the target... could not pull the trigger no matter how hard I tried. It happened three times... the guys gave me a no bird for each but I could not make the shot even though I knew exactly where it was going etc I could not pull the trigger.

John, I can certainly identify with the vanishing target crap.  And not a problem that I was ever able to deal with successfully for sure.

And, Ian, on the gun fit revelation.  I fairly certain that I'm only one of several million people who has stumbled onto that particular enlightenment.  And there are still aspects of that I'm not all that certain of.  but I have one of the TSK super adjusto's gonna hit the step today and I figure that messing with that thing for a while will fill in some blanks.  Or not hahahaha

multi adjustable thing it is then.

good luck with it Charlie, you will have many hours of fun twiddling an 1/8" here and there. :)

So it's like the evocomp kraut thing but made in Italy so more "pure"

Only 1/8"???  I usually go for 1/16" increments.  I know I'm not a sensitive person, but my God, man! - an 1/8"??  That;s just coarse rough-in kinda adjustment.

I have seen these in the flesh, they look ok if that sort of thing floats yet boat. :)

"I am also one of those shooters who can kill the first pair on a stand and then not replicate it for the remaining 6 or so shots!! "

i would love to know how to cure this problem ;)

I think a sweet, kind, and caring teenage girlfriend would take your mind off the problem......so I've been told, anyway.

your last sentence seems to confirm my thoughts that it is not recoil related furthermore anyone who suffers the effects of recoil should get a gun that fits and or correct there gun mount. Modern cartridges are much softer generally than they were thirty years ago also comp guns seem much heavier therefore there really is no excuse to experience recoil at all.
OR, they could always use an auto   !!!

If "flinching" Has NOTHING to do with recoil, why do so many shooters use hydraulic, soft rubber shock absorbent after market recoil pads? :???:
