Urgently seeking barrel bolts for Perazzi MX8 (detachable triggers) sizes 9 and 10 to replace worn size 8, I am after one to be fitted on Thursday by my gunsmith to try and get me to the World's for Sat assuming I can re-book from my Thursday place ! Currently RUAG are trying to source also but only found out yesterday it needed sorting so time scales are tight, hoping somebody have some for spares they no longer need.

So use my ignorance..but what are barrel bolts and how would I know what size mine are?

Cheers unfortunately both don't have the right size still a few more to ring round so fingers crossed!

Just told they are around £150!

Dog tyred it's what the barrel hinges around ( also called the H bolt I think) so when it's worn there will be a slight movement in the barrels when the gun is fired - in my case it's causing the barrels to open sometimes on the second shot, a top lever spring can cure this but mine is fairly new and I have been warn a new one may not stop it.

How many cartridges through this gun? Mine now has had 68000 and its still tight as a drum. However, I grease the barrels pins (are these the bolts?) and never shoot more than 200 before carefully cleaning and renewing the grease. Should last forever like that I reckon..

Not sure of the numbers but I picked it up second hand, and only do about 7000 a year, it's a 2009 gun and was a DTL shooters before so might have seen a few! The first sign is light between the breach face and barrels so I am told.

I do the normal every shoot clean and grease but I guess this is general wear over its life.

A quick fix would be to have the H bolt laser welded.  You could try Ladbroke & Langton on Monday speak to Bob or Carl, they can pull out the stops in an emergency.

Even if you get an over sized H bolt it'll still need fitting though.

The "H-bolt" thing would seem to be more in ref to the locking bar.  And a worn bar may let the action open on shooting but it is FAR more likely that the top lever spring is the cause.  Locking bar/lug wear can be estimated by the position of the top lever relative to the tang with the action closed.  When the lever is parallel to the tang the locking is getting worn.  You really need to check with a proper Perazzi 'smith ......... and one of those would have a selection of locking bars on hand if in fact you needed one.

What the others think you mean are the trunnions and wearing those to any extent would take a rare talent.  I've had 50yr old Perazzis that had no appreciable wear on the trunnions, nor any newer ones as well.  If the barrels are off face that gun has been subjected to some unreasonable abuse I'd say.

Top lever / locking bar spring - quick and easy .............and cheap

Yep stronger top spring was offered as a possible fix but my gunsmith has replaced that only 8000 cartridges back and he as noted the movement as being caused by a worn H bolt and advised the safe option to fix it, is go up a size and fit accordingly.

Thanks for the option Phil, I am up in Cheshire so not to handy for your idea. I will sit tight to see what I hear on Monday from a few people and take it from there.

I can only suggest that you get someone to replace the top lever spring with the proper Perazzi part and then evaluate the situation.  I measure spring life in years.  I can't count high enough for carts.  Locking bars should go 50000-100000 open/close if the gun is not mis-handled.

Again I suggest that you get someone who really qualified with Perazzis to do whatever needs to be done.  I'm fortunate beyond measure that Lucio Sosta is available in SoCal if I should ever need him.  I can't believe that there is not someone capable in GB.

My gunsmith only uses Perazzi parts and has looked after this gun under its previous ownership so I am confident in his judgement on this - it's had some work as a competition gun and just think its one of those things
