Ooh i think some posts are going to upset some people but i Will be brave and start us off.

Kreighof - purely for aesthetics i just find them to be a tad austere.

It is amazing how your opinion can change with the healing of time.

For me it would be a Beretta DT10 and any Krieghoffs, for the following reasons, I had a lovely looking DT10, nice wood, adjustable comb as standard, fabulous looking piece of kit. Five weeks old barrels decided to leave the monobloc, very disconcerting and scary , caused me to count my fingers for weeks afterwards. Then it started to double discharge, then it started to jump open after firing the first barrel, then occasionally the trigger mech would try to fall out. What a heap off poorly made junk, although I think that it is now a good value for money competition gun but for me the damage was done. I do like the DT11 to shoot but wouldn't buy one. Krieghoff, how can you make a gun so ugly by design? Barrels are old fashioned design technology and often with quality issues, far too many clips and pins inside, far too much to go wrong, necessitating annual care, buyer beware, miss a service at your peril. But in saying that if you buy right at second hand you can get an investment bargain. I know many owners who believe that buying a Krieghoff as given them a few targets onto their score cards.

Actually I think that like cartridges there are not many bad ones out there today, it all comes down to personal taste.

But I must say, without doubt, MIROKU are the best value for money gun bar none, from S/H Grade one to Grade 5 there is something to suit everyone and the Miroku will never hold your ability back. If Miroku was marketed by Alan Rhone or Mike Mansfield / Kevin Gill no other brand would exceed the market share. Browning are doing a very good job of snatching failure out of the hands of success.

Beretta's UGB25 xcel, I liked it's quirky looks, had one when they first came out, shot it reasonably well although had a few technical issues which GMK ironed out. Kept it for about a year but decided it was a little too heavy for skeet and reverted back to my 390. Definitely one of them guns you love or hate! I loved it, just couldn't shoot it as well as I would have liked.

You won't be considering one as your next gun then Shaun?

My main gun is a new Zoli Sport Z-Extra with 32" tubes and extended chokes - and this does me fine for ESP. Still a bit stiff to break, but she'll be fine with a little TLC, lube and another 2,000 shells through her.

Given that I only tried DTL for the first time last Saturday at Park Lodge, and again last Wednesday at Manchester Clay Shooting Club at Worsley (MCSC), and both times I used my wife's Zoli Kronos Sporter (29.5" tubes), I thought I'd give it another go today at MCSC, and it is rapidly becoming my 'love it' gun. A sporting gun in my wife's hands and a trap in mine, as I seem to be able to hit 80% of what I shoot with it.

My Franchi Dominator (acquired only last week) is a 30" true trap gun, and it's already clear I need an raised comb on her. That said, she shoots like a dream and for the price I picked her up at, and the near mint condition for a 25 year old gun, I am as happy as a pig in the proverbial with it.

Be going on a shooting tour in Italy early in the New Year, where I hope to pick up a Perazzi of some description at a good price.
