Hi all, instead of going abroad for a weeks family holiday this year, we have decided to have a couple of long weekends in the UK. First one is planned for 6-9th July to Leicestershire, travel down on the Friday, stay/explore Saturday/Sunday and travel back Monday. My wife has kindly gave me permission to spend half of Saturday at Kibworth and shoot the 100 ESP at Grange Farm Sunday morning. I'm looking for suggestions for, where to stay? Somewhere nice to go out for dinner? Something for wife and 2 boys (6 & 8) to do for half a day Saturday? Places to cross off my Leicestershire bucket list? For once in my life I'm going to try and be organised........so fire away with ideas?!?!

I'll reply to this later mate but I live there so can fill you in on a few things to do. Do you like fishing? Anything the lads like doing? Plenty places to stay, depends what your looking for, but sure I can help you out!

Ed

Hi Ed, I love fishing......my wife hates it!!! The boys like swimming, sports, outdoor play parks, anything active really. They are built like Tonka toys, robust!!! As for where to stay, ideally not in the centre of town, but wouldn't rule it out, somewhere, clean, nice and friendly and doesn't cost the earth.

Some of the things I've found on line are,

National space centre?

Snibston?

Twycross zoo?

Hood Park outdoor pool?

Donington le Heath Manir House?

They all seem to be the other side of Leicister to Kibworth!?!?

Twin lakes at Melton worth a visit.

Rutland water hire bikes and cycle round.

Space centre.

National transport museum Coventry.

To name a few.

More to follow.

I recon a good deal would be ou on a boat at Rutland for a day, and wife and kids cycling/wildlife centre etc round the water. As above there is always twycross or space centre in Leicester which would be about 25 mins from Kibbo....

My wife says, "no deal!!!" :( ........exactly how far away from Kibbo is Rutland?

Twycross is ok but there are better zoos in the country. It is very heavily monkey/ape based with not much else.

Hope you enjoy it , whatever you do :)

The Melton Mowbray area is nice.... I stayed in a couple of hotels in a previous job - Barnsdale Hall, which was near Oakham I think... and the Whipper Inn - both were fairly nice, small but reasonably priced.... lovely countryside around there including Rutland Water as previously mentioned.

Like Ed I used to live there for a long time. It's going to depend on which side of Leicester you stay as what your probably going to want to do. If your the Rutland side which is about half an hour from Kibworth or an hour from Orston then you've got Rutland Water, rockingham and Belvoir castles, twin lakes etc. if you stay in Leicester or the west side of it then your closer to Grange farm. You've got the space centre, fosse park, high cross shopping centre, Alton towers would be less than an hour away, twycross zoo further afield you could go to west mids safari park too.

My wife has booked us into Westfield House Hotel, Blaby.......her first and second choise and just about anywhere else with a family room were booked solid for the three nights we wanted  Looking at the map it dosn't look like much of a drive to get to either Kibworth or Grange farm, I'm still not allowed a day on Rutland!!!
