Which is the cleanest?

Hi

I really don't enjoy cleaning shotgun barrels, life is too short in my mind

Are there any cartridges that are especially clean burning all other things considered?

I understand that temp and humidity have an impact but I am looking to minimise time gun cleaning

I find Eley to be the dirtiest. Most others are fine. All fibre cartridges will leave a stink up..

well for me Gamebore Blue Diamonds you'll need to try a few different ones and see what gives you confidence and whats clean enough for you

I think most are pretty clean in modern barrels. It is only the odd exception that you'll find, such as the aforementioned Eleys.

I'm using Evo and F Black at the moment and they appear very clean.

These are by far the worst I have tried, worse even than eley firsts which were terrible also...

I've been using Clever T2's for the last 6 months or so through my 692 and I can say without reservation they are the cleanest shells I've used in the last 5 years.

I don't shoot them for this reason, I shoot them because I like their characteristics but not having to spend hours scrubbing my gun afterwards is a very welcome bonus.

Not a fan boy or trying to sell any, just relaying personal experience.

Unusually the fibres are spotless

It don't bother me if a cartridge is clean or dirty most times there dirty cause there a little damp. But hull superfast is the only cartridge that I can see plastic flaking off the barrel and chokes again it don't bother me there cheap and hit hard

Not sure if this helps, but here we go.  I shoot Fiocchi shells in various guises.  Towards December this year, they started to show a lot of unburnt powder and muck in the barrels.  I keep my shells in the garage.

However, when I brought them in the house where it is nice and warm, they miraculously cleaned themselves up.  I believe that if they are kept in a damp place a lot of the powder becomes damp and doesn't burn.

Maybe somebody here of higher authority could clear that one up?

Not sure we've got anybody with Godlike qualities on here, but I will confirm what you say.  :superman:

I always keep my cartridges in the warm and dry of the house and go further by putting them on a shelf over the radiator during the colder and damper months a couple of days before a shoot.

I never suffer from the unburnt powder syndrome that seems to blight a lot on here. I don't use the cheapest cartridges but they all should be kept where the powder will not become cold or damp. It's common sense really?  :biggrin:

This is spot on advice cartridges do not like cold or damp. I have had the odd bad batch due I think to suppliers storage conditions not my warm cosy walk in wardrobe. Sometimes they never improve with a warm up and remain cack leaving soot deposits and the occasional obvious slow burn.

Tuck em up nice and cosy and hope they fix themselves.
