** Warning ** Techie talk about to start....

Anyone here use a Windows 8 Phone? I have the Lumia 920 and curious to know what apps you guys use, any good suggestions?

Cheers

I make a point of never being a guinea pig for Mr Gates and his latest raft of products. Happy with XP and Windows 7, and won't budge from them (or become an iDrone) until such time as the usual three years of norz, re-issues, re-re-release and patches have been ironed out.

Edited to add this from today's news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22439496

You are aware that Bill Gates retired from running MSFT in 2008?

A man of impeccable taste :D a proper gun to go with a proper phone ;)

Cheers Fuzrat, just need to learn to shoot it well! Having been a Blackberry user for years I went down the iphone route, was ok for a while but seemed limiting. Got offered a Lumia 920 through work so thought I'd give it a go. Very nice phone, typical solid Nokia build quality and so far it integrates with my work stuff seamless, we use office 365 etc. Not sure I miss any of the iphone apps yet, just good to see what apps other people are using.

Thanks Matt, look forward to seeing what you have on yours.

Little tip, if it happens to freeze on you obviously you can't just pull the battery out and switch on again as its sealed. Hold the down volume button and the on/off button down for 10 secs and it reboots. Mine did it a few weeks back and i crapped myself. Only problem is this resets the clock. Everything else stays good :D

Right - sorry... things got a bit busy last night - lets have a look at what I am running on the phone now:

Board Express Pro - allows you to access this (and other) forum(s) in a nice Metro style

Spotify - good mobile client, with offline syncing (needs premium account)

TV Catchup - allows me to watch Pointless and Eggheads whilst waiting outside my sons Karate lesson

TV Guide + - figure out what you need to get home to watch - BUT ALSO do Sky + remote record

The British Airways App - very useful if you fly a lot, check in and manage your booking on your phone

BT Wifi app - allows you to find, login and use wifi on the move

Skype - W8 app is excellent

Facebook/LinkedIn - useful

Rowi for Twitter - can manage multiple accounts at once (@mattr / @ShootClay Admin / and more)

Audible for downloading and listening to audiobooks - very good

Dropbox viewer - I store everything in the cloud, allows me fill access to what I need

Photoroom - good for editing pictures from that amazing camera

Lomogram - some fun picture effects

Met Office - good weather forecasts from the guys that get it more right than most

Netflix - rent and watch video on the move

Games...I don't play many - but I like Bejeweled Live and Reactoids

Hope this helps - let me know what else you find...

Oh - and I forgot Office, of course - couldn't live without having full Office on my phone - am also a Office 365 user (actually - I run support for O365 at MSFT) - but good to be able to move a document from laptop, to surface to phone to desktop PC and still have the same versions etc.

Well this is very interesting, erm we provide implementation services for SME's in particular O365 and we are in the ms partner program, although we do get the odd techie moment that needs resolving :)

So far I have these:

Skype
Whatsapp
BA App
Weather Flow
Live Tile Agenda
Top Task List
Linkedin
Skyscanner
Translator
Trip Planner
O365

Not really in to games, a good shooting app for tracking scores, averages and results would be good

Well there you go - I work in a parallel team to the one that provides support for partners.

Small world innit!

I'm using an HTC Windows 8 X.  I like the phone, great camera etc.  I don't find the xbox music store all that intuitive to get set up.  I use a mac laptop at home and was a bit annoyed that my OS (10.5. 8) could not handle the application for moving itunes music without upgrading to 10.7.  Hey Ho, above all a quality phone, and live tiles are excellent for setting up a phone exactly how you want it.

Agreed - Xbox Music has not been implemented well - the business model is good, 9.99 per month all you can eat music - but getting music onto the phone is not fool proof... I tend to just download music when I am connected to wifi - it's fiddly, but seems to work.

Agree that mac support is not good - I'd expect that to be improved.

Only thing that I really want but not available yet is the sky go app. As I have unlimited data i would like to watch sky sports in my breaks. I can tether my netbook or laptop but its a bit of a pain :(

I hear a lot about apps coming - there are a few banking ones just released and lots more in development - I'll keep you guys posted if I hear anything.

Just a demand thing i suppose, good thing is windows phone is becoming more popular so the apps will follow :)
