What a lovely afternoon and evening nearly 70 entries on the long range 70 birder and good evening on white gold

Really good feed back , we might have to find more thurs evenings and do it all again

Every target hit table but not what you see on a normal Sunday

I'm sure other views will follow

Chipper lost the chocolate challenge again

Already posted on sporting blog Steveo Mr Clinto shot well, proper targets and £15 re-entry total result, well run as always and best days shooting for long time ( I did win bounty back 2nd card, but Dr Clinto faded with working in the heat) personally I think anyone who shot in the 50's showed class at the rangy stuff, but every stand every target was hit-able, do more Steveo

That was good fun on a beautiful afternoon  , was going ok but the long looper that followed the red going away got me, tried but couldn't find it.

They were not stupid long, but yes i can hit these long which you could sometimes. As soon as you eased of the gas pair lost! doh

All your tough Sunday targets in one shoot!!

Do it again.

soooooo sorry but re-entries dont count ..........one nill  :nyam:

Banger I think what needs pointing out is you only really shot with one arm ( now I know some say you always shoot with one arm and one eye ) so bloody well done , did your mates caddie for you or let you struggle ?????

Another date for those that like to see a gap is Thurs 12 sept at windrush plus white gold

Steve,

Interesting comment in your post above:-

"We had a left to right simo pair at around 70 yards which chipper and I straighted but it was Hugh lead but a good speed and clearly visible so good to shoot."

Perhaps it may help and encourage those who never connected with those sort of targets at your shoots what lead you believe that you see?

We all see lead by varying amounts , indeed some shots will tell you they never see lead especially if they shoot quickly using swing through.

Other people you can stand with them and see that they are behind and encourage them to give the next target more lead, but they never do, lots of lead seems alien to them.

So it may be interesting if you and Chipper ( The Range Meisters ) could share your views?  I am sure it will be of assistance to the newbies.

Sadly I couldn't make it as my Butler, Mr. Lead Belly had to polish the silver.

Peter , your presence was missed , well for a minute anyway !!!!!

Perceived lead now there's a can of worms generally for distance and quick clays I use maintained lead and the pair in question was big , I can't see lead at the clay I tend to stare at the and push the gun out on the line but aware of it in perifiole vision so I guess my gun would have been 10 inches in front at the end of the barrel compare this with a good battue on a normal day of about 4 inches and you can tell the sort of lead we are talking , as you say everyone is different so I guess chipper was straight at it !!!!

Been talking to my wife have you?

Thanks for the reply Steve, that is exactly what I think newbies will find useful. For instance I was once told to give a midi off West London's Tower " twenty two feet of lead  out there at the target " . Very difficult to comprehend.

So it will be interesting to hear what others have to say about lead pictures on yesterday's targets.

The pair in question Steveo were a cracking pair of targets and the kills with the shot string were good, personally I picked the bird up big gun speed and about 4ft gap but with big gun speed, probably someone who shoots maintained leed 8ft gap, personally I would love to see a couple of targets like that at registered shoots there wouldn't be 98's etc but that's my opinion

the picture is toatally dependant on your ability to read distance and style of shooting.

i push to the gap and almost stop my gun so see big leads compared with my mate who shoots swing through.

all i know is chipper cant measure distance at range ;)

he says 4ft swing thru and maybe 8ft maintained for the given target and steve says 10 inch at the end of the gun. well i would tend to believe steve more on the basis that ive given around 40ft percieved lead to a target at around 85yds (target crossing over a fence, and i had to give it 5 posts gap at that range to kill it, assuming 10ft between posts!). christ i give best part of a 4ft gap on station 4 skeet.
That's the gap I seen personally Emmsy, but I shoot a lot of gun speed on those targets, the Wiltshire Wobbler said he seen 8ft gap he gave more to hit it, horses for courses, shame you couldn't make it Emmsy you would of enjoyed it

Personally I think lead is something you see or dont see.....for me I tend to imagine a line from the gun to a projected point in front of the target, where hopefully the target will be , when the baulk of the shot gets there ? the further the target the bigger the gap !! gun fit is paramount to make this work (well for me anyway) most of the time my gun is moving when I pull the trigger, so line is pretty critical as well.Rising targets are easier to deal with, and crossers need to be shot before the dreaded stall and fall takes place..... Think you need a bit of every method in your locker, take for instance a dropping crow thing!!! very hard to swing a gun down hill, so the one yesterday with the batteu (50yds out ?) held my gun still on the predicted fall line and pulled the trigger when it was 2-3ft above my eye line, light full and a Viper 7 1/2 gave very impressive kills.

The teal was a long job so this was attacked with a fast gun upward swing, I imagine 4-6ft above it early in the targets flight, again light full but this time a BM3 7  :good:  never missed one in two visits not many bits left either, so for me that combo worked I'm not saying you need big brass bombers but in reality and mentally it works for me. you really need to acquire a style that works FOR YOU and build up confidence with it, and if you feel a big shiny brassed shell might help use some ! sadly these type of targets are so rare now practice will be hard to find, but if steve has the balls to put it on I for one will be showing up

The next will be from 1 pm till 7 pm , hopefully there will be enough day light to do the white gold shoot off , or well bring that forward to 6.30 and last entry on shoot at 7 pm

The targets will be the same stamp as yesterday
