Things I have noticed watching this video

1 - How does Tkach ever see the target with her right eye half closed ?

2 - Is it me or do all American shooters male or female adopt a very un-natural looking style ?

3 - Rossi shoots like a bloke (this is meant as a compliment)

1. I guess its open enough?

2. Yes, although the Hieden seems to be the most orthodox

3. Rossi is going to have dreadful stoop when she's older. Stand up straight girl between shots!!

One thing I noticed looking at the videos and especially the still photographs of all trap shooters is that majority of them seem to have their noses level with their thumbs (if you know what I mean). What ever happened to the two finger gap between nose and thumb?

Your right about the nose / thumb thing I have noticed that over the years particularily the Italians. Spose the two finger thing is just a ..................... wait for it .................................................................................................................................................rule of thumb.

I prefer as short a stock as possible without touching my nose, I have a few different thickness pads, start at the shortest and work my way up slowly. You have to shoot though as a dry mount wont tell you.

See how Rossi's eyes never move from the focus point at anytime during the mount, class.

Very wide stance though ?

Can Hieden ever mount correctly first time ?

Seen the ref keep looking at his stop watch ?

If you check out the photos (ISSF site currently down) there are some that have half their cheek over the end of the comb!!

Been thinking my stock is toooo long recently but can't bring myself to take a saw to it!! Once its gone its gone!

Really need to try a few shorter ones out before deciding. I'm hoping that a shorter stock will make the gun a bit more lively as I am a bit slow getting to the target.

What's the general concensus regarding length of pull for a trap gun?

Defo will make it livelier Greg. Interested in replies to your question however I will be surprised if its any different to "as short as possible without your thumb hitting your nose" obviously there will be people who are extremes as you have mentioned but there good shooting I suspect is despite of rather than because of.

I wanted the 'on the thumb' when i got the Evocomp as it allows you to try anything.....but it did not work for my style...so i went back to a longer stock...and now i am happy

Oh

Forgot to credit Mr 40up as official "Saturday morning sealand OT" photographer :)

PS - Fred you will note that I have cropped out some very unsavoury looking characters from the pic :)

Just watched this - fantastic video and so much for non trappies to learn... so my questions:

1. Rossi seems to load her shell as she walks between the pegs - is that allowed?

2, What's the deal with the wristband on the left arm of the Japanese shooter (Yukie) - looks like some kind of support, but interested as to what it is.

Broader comment - if you had told me 3 years ago that I would watch an hour of trap shooting on video, I'd have said you were mad - but this is really interesting stuff - even from a hedge monkey there is a lot to learn from this, the consistency of the pre-shot routine is something incredible.

Bravo!

Yes you are allowed to load between pegs apart from when walking from 5 to 1

Cant answer the wrist band but assume like you that it is a support, she probably shoots that many practice clays per day she has repetitive strain.

Interesting, indeed it is and at this level it is quite awesome as anyone who has (or tried to) shot OT will tell you that the scores at this level we can only dream of. But we don't practice about 500 a day :)

Yes and what you do not see on that because of the camera angle is that Jessica half closes her left eye and then opens it ...everytime before calling Pull. It is the last part of her set up that she does.

Nice to see Frederica make it too. She has also been a Helice shooter and medalled in Rome last year....just saying..

I'm a nobody but that works for me.  I def feel "out of the gun" with longer stocks.  I've noticed too that it is way easier to shoot a gun with a too short stock than it is one with a too long stock.  Not that that is a good idea, but to me it seems and indicator of the way the world is supposed to be.   :nyam:

For reasons that I'm sure may border on the irrational, I've looked to the Italians for shooting hints for a long long time.  FWIW they also seem to have a good lock on setting up a bicycle.  So far both have seemed to work out just fine for me.   :spiteful:
