The November moon has once again brought a good fall of Woodcock to this area. Hope to have some good sport and tasty eating in the coming week's.

One got up a yard in front of me on Wednesday as I was going through some low bramble, frightened the life out of me .

Love them. Not had one this year....but here is one from before.

I saw a few last week, I am out Saturday morning after them. Was told that 17 were spotted in a field nearby on Wednesday night by a foxer. So hope to put out a few, we get quite a good drop of Woodcock around Loch Lomond then they move west or move on down south. Looks like a good day for it aswell, the past few night have been bitter up here.

Any of you managed a "Left and Right" or, top and bottom as it may be these days ... ?

Been game shooting for 30+ years and choose to no longer shoot woodcock, if they are flushed.

I have no problem with other people doing it, but just a personal choice.

Left and right = side by side

Top and bottom = over and under

I'm guessing that is what is meant ????

I've done a left and left does that count for a tie ;-))

Left & Right at Woodcock for information is,

to shoot a pair of woodcock without dismounting the gun and or reloading. In reality you probably will partially dismount the gun due to the effects of recoil, but I think you get the general idea, a woodcock flushes, you mount shoot and kill it and then you notice another one flitting away and shoot that also. The feat must be witnessed by at least two other people to qualify for the Bol's 'schnippen' club. (the original sponsor of the woodcock club). If you are lucky enough to do it send details and the names and addresses of your witnesses to Shooting Times.

Ideal habitat for Woodcock is Birch woods and places with lots of leaf mold and decaying vegitation, damp woodland, so keep your eyes peeled and good luck.

We had a cracking day on Saturday, we put up 20 Woodcock between two of us, only managed one in the bag.

thank's for leaving the other 19 untouched to fly south :)

Had a ringed bird a few week's ago, any more been shot?

Hopefully the few I spared will have flown west to D#@#@ where I will be next week, or stayed put as I will be back again the week after.
