Powder stack-up issue using Hodgdon High gun

You'd be better off asking this questions on the NSSA discussion boards or trapshooters.com. Few people home load in the UK.

DTL top or bottom first !

Always bottom barrel first. This better transmits recoil straight back into the shoulder and reduces the likelihood of muzzle flip. It’s not a game changer but shooting top barrel first will exacerbate any problems you have with your guns pitch. There’s a lot of nonsense talked about set up...

    English skeet shooting

The best advice when it comes to domestic skeet is to watch Todd Bender's 'Winning with the fundamentals at Skeet' DVD. It breaks the discipline down in a methodical and simplistic way and is, to a large extent, the reason why CPSA and NSSA scores and averages have risen in the past 10 years...

    English skeet shooting

It’s impossible to say without more explanation. Even then it would probably need someone to watch you shoot to diagnose and correct the problem. In the meantime this may help: It’s NSSA skeet but the leads are the same.

    Purely Theoretical But…..

Well, it certainly wouldn’t be the UK. Clay shooting’s slowly dying here. I’d probably head for the US. Not only is the sport safe but there ample high quality trap and skeet grounds with competition that’s several steps above the best in the UK. Oh, and they shoot NSSA skeet. Much more...

    orston sold under new management

Thinking back a few years when Charlie and his family ran the ground, the DTL layout was always busy. In fact, they probably made as much from the trap as they did other disciplines. You're right, difficult decisions have to be made running a business but kindness costs little and that seems to...

    Elephant in the room

Clay shooting as a sport is slowly dying. This isn't necessarily as a result of government action or inaction. The sport is caught in a perfect storm that comprises, but is not limited to: 1. Pressure to prevent physical and societal pollution at both a national and local level. 2. Local...

    Fashionable skeet gun

I'm assuming you're talking about domestic skeet rather than the ISSF version. In general, skeet guns have got longer and heavier over the past 10-15 years. Thirty inch barrels are probably the most common on a skeet layout these days although thirty two inches are popular. Much depends on your...

    Rule changes

I do, as do several others. They’re not banned by the CPSA, only the ISSF for events under their jurisdiction.

    Rule changes

Rule changes have been introduced for DTL, ABT, OT and OSK. This places the CPSA in line with the ISSF. Key amongst them is the prohibition of semi automatic and pump action shotguns for registered events. This is with immediate effect. Details here...

    Behaviour please.

I’m afraid it’s necessary for me to pop my moderators hat on. Ladies and gentlemen, please remember your manners when posting on this website. Keen discussion is welcome but, just recently, more than a few conversations have become unnecessarily nasty. I’ve also had to have quiet word with a...
