I would start by telling the ref and/or people you’re shooting with that you are a beginner. You will find they will be a bit more forgiving and may even help you! Don’t get too disappointed if you don’t shoot well, nerves will get to you on your first comp. Good luck.

I told the ground when I booked in on my first registered shoots and they put me in a squad of friendly, helpful shooters. Made to feel very welcome and I felt a good way to start. Obviously only works for squadded shoots!

I had the same feelings when I shot my first comp a couple of months or so ago. Some things I found helpful where to not go first on a stand if you can help it. Gives you a little more time to get things ready i.e chokes, cartridges, drink, clean glasses etc without feeling worried. Also as said above just let everyone know it’s your first or first couple of shoots I have always found everyone to be helpful and accommodating. And I’m still getting first couple of stand nerves 😂
