    Shoot reports and news 2024

Totally agree with this. Coaching can easily make a 'Class' difference if not two.

    Shoot reports and news 2024

I totally get why someone might 'fall out' with the CPSA - having done part of my Level 1 coaching it's a very prescriptive organisation in terms of getting 'in' and on within it. It's fine if you just shoot. Having said that if you do go elsewhere why not shoot 'birds only' until your class &...

    Beretta 694 sporting choke replacements

Those DLC chokes are the same design as the standard ones that came with my 694 - minus the coloured ring. It seems it actually has a purpose - it stops the choke key cutouts cutting the inside of your slip. I was a big fan of a coloured ring - blue always made for a better choke performance...

    only shoot 1/2 & 3/4

Recent post on TGS with James Bradley Day re the chokes he uses. It's mixed in with a discussion about 7.5 & 6.5 cartridges and their hitting power. As with Jonny (above) the Fblus are 7s and I've not seen any reason to move from 1/4 & 1/2 other than using a 6.5 (or Rossa) for confidence. The...

    Misfire

For me the key is not the time you wait (give it 5 or 10 seconds of course) but ensuring you open the gun with the barrels angled so that the cartridge can (hang)fire and eject rapidly if need be from the gun in safe way. There is a big temptation to open the gun with the primer visible so you...

    Purely Theoretical But…..

The downside of Lutterworth is it's in the "golden triangle". That might sound glamorous but its the UK mecca for distribution. We have lorries everywhere and building and road works are constant. The upside is the number of grounds. In no preference Doveridge, Sporting Targets, Northampton...

    Purely Theoretical But…..

A quick second for Market Harborough - I'm Lutterworth so that's close enough. This discussion makes me wonder if there are places too hot or too sunny to shoot.

    Shoot reports and news 2024

Shot AGL on Friday. Weather was perfect. Course for me slightly on the hard side. Quite quiet but I was there at 1.30pm so the morning may have been busier. I dropped a few through Friday tiredness and then a couple on the sim stand (8 I think) trying them the other way round. Happy with a 6...

    Beretta 694 choosing nice wood

Luke makes a good point - would the money spent driving around the country be better spent on getting the wood on the gun you have seen properly finished. It might be a good few hundred quid.

    Beretta 694 choosing nice wood

I would agree with shopping about personally if you are looking for a particular piece of wood; only you will know when you find it. Wood is always subjective so it's better to see it yourself. Also the weight of wood can vary a little with quality such that whilst the 694 can be balanced with...

    Chokes

Mobil is just a name at the end of the day. Maybe they haven't changed the specs. Maybe they are exact (which I doubt) or maybe they were always made to wide tolerances (which I suspect) to allow for tool wear, barrel tool variations etc. I just don't know but I struggle to see how the after...

    Chokes

Martin - Sounds like I was being way too optimistic !!! If they can't get it right then what hope has somebody else.

    Chokes

Westley - Agree with you there. It's interesting that Blaser went to Briley for their chokes for the F3/F16 and there's nothing particularly unusual about them. They are about the same length as the old Beretta Mobil system. Of course they do have coloured bands.

    Chokes

I'm sure they can measure the thread - they might even know how to measure all of the info required to replicate it - pitch, root, crest & all of the diameters etc. I suspect however that Beretta have changed their (exact) specs over the 20 years the Mobil choke system was used - god knows how...

    Chokes

Smear a lot of Rocol Sapphire grease on the thread. They stay where they are then. I suspect that aftermarket suppliers don't have the exact thread spec for the exact gun whereas Beretta probably do.

    ClayMate on Solo

Load the gun and close it and you normally would. End of the stock held in the crook of your elbow, (in your case) right hand in the grip. Left hand - press the button and then drop the gun on the left hand on the forend. You will have enough time to find you hold point.

    Cartridge for new shooter .

I like TT1s - I have hit some surprising stuff with them. The short ferrule (brass) has causes problems with some ejectors - my daughter's (bought new) 525 will not eject them about 1 in 30. No problem with my F3 however a 682 Gold I have hates them. I prefer to pay the extra for the Fblu.

    Reasons for missing

I agree with this 100%. I appreciate you might not take the 2nd shot but the cartridge is there so it might tempt you to think differently. Also, great advice regarding methods and kill points. Once you are shooting competitions, the course setters know how to mess you up - they will predict...

    Choke regulation recommendations please

I would be tempted to leave them as they are for the moment. Are the barrels chrome lined and would that be redone ?

    Reasons for missing

I have added a few points here as I'm not entirely sure I understand whether you are shooting two of the same clay or different ones. If you are shooting CPSA comps, its 100 birds normally in pairs with (generally) one shot per clay. As such, if you are practicing a single clay then use a...
