Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Honesberie for me as well. Really enjoyed it but I'll confess to have actual nerves before the first stand! The excitement of shooting after a break was something I hadn't experienced before. Stand 8 in the field really cost me, I didn't read the line of the midi properly. I ended on 78 which...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

A rather lovely, long, holiday I'll be attempting to remember which way the cartridges go in the gun on Sunday at Honesberie.

I didn’t know you could hide yourself on the cpsa? How does one do that? Not that I have any desire to, just curious!

    Pilla alternatives

Check out the offerings from RE Ranger and also Oakley!

One piece cleaning rods available in UK??

Look at the Magic Bore kit, yes its quite pricey but it does a great job. https://www.magicbore.co.uk/hand-kit

I had an ejector fail on my 725, it's quite a distraction! Well done for hitting a second shoot! Sure Brierley Guns can sort you out?

    Will Hewland

Whilst I've not had a lesson from Will he's been more than happy to offer advice whenever I've asked; its delivered in a clear and pragmatic way. Night and day compared to some of the unsolicited 'helpful hints' I was given in my first year of shooting 😄

    3/4 and full

So you agree with me?  If you start with 18.4 and reduce it by 10 thou then it will be tighter than starting by 18.7 and reducing it by 10 thou.

    STARTING COMPETITION CLAY SHOOTING

No problem, @Zea! I share those two with a lot of people as they contain really great, helpful, info for new shooters.

    3/4 and full

But what about the bore size? Remember, choke constrictions are based on the bore. So a gun with a bore of 18.4 and a 1/4 choke will shoot a lot tighter than 18.7 with a 1/4 choke! ....Just to an another layer of confusion to your choices 😜

    STARTING COMPETITION CLAY SHOOTING

Good choice! There's a great blog written by a regular face on the competition circuit around these parts, it'll cover all you need to know! Part 1: https://gungirluk.com/2017/09/27/cpsa-competitions-part-1-im-ready-to-progress-what-is-the-cpsa-why-should-i-join/  Part...

Sunday shoots now the poor relative in the south.

I have to agree with you, Will. The Sunday shoots are often over subscribed due to the popularity of the sport. I make sure to book my holiday to shoot the Ian Coley Summer Series as its a very enjoyable mid week shoot. I could dedicate my whole holiday allowance and probably not be able to...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

I'll be honest, I voted with my feet a while back when I had to fight to get my prize money. Apparently if it's not collected within 3 months it finds a different home. My suggestion to have this rule mentioned on their scores spreadsheet that goes on to Facebook didn't seem to appeal.

New ground , The Clay Shooting Company

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Despite the weather forecast I went to Westfield, expecting the worst. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the traps were set with pretty much full spring to punch through and remain pretty consistent. I had a very nice card before I lost 11 birds on the last two stands 😭

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

There were some presentations there that I’ve not seen there before so the change was good. I enjoyed the targets as I rarely shoot stuff going down banks etc; I would say that a course like that would get tedious if it’s the same style for the whole series. I let clumsy ones go across the...
