    Dirty Barrels

One of the guys that I shoot with had a lot of problems with English Sporters. Light loads which were depositing wads in the barrels of his gun. He ended up carrying a set of rods that I keep in my bag, to clear the barrels and finish the shoot . I believe the supplier exchanged the remainder...

Remember to put your glasses on

Strange you should say that, only yesterday a piece of incoming broken clay has left a permanent reminder on the peak of my baseball cap.

Which part of the world are you in ??

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

I use 24 gram cartridges quite a lot, mainly due to an age, fitness, and probably psychological thing. I use them usually in my first barrel, I think my gun recoils less after the first shot, making it easier to get onto the second. This is a personal thing and probably bears no substance, but...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

Quite correct BUT, with nobody there that can identify those issues, you now have a 'flinching' problem to overcome too. If they can not make changes to the gun, however temporary, a reduced recoil cartridge can, to a degree, lessen the effect. Most of the shooters that I instruct are first...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

YES, most definitely, you are likely to hit more and enjoy the experience ! I have used 21 gram cartridges for lessons since they first became available. I have seen clays broken by beginners at some ridiculous distances, that was through an old Beretta with no choke in the barrel too. The...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

A good coach and he probably would not even have the problems. It is extremely difficult to guess what he is doing, but the position of that bruising could well be too long a stock. Any recoil pads fitted to or under his clothing, would only make matters worse.

    Or lousy gun fit ?

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

I would go for a gas semi auto in 12 bore. The Armsan is excellent value for money, from what I have seen.

    Isis Green recoil pads

I have 2 Isis pads and one of their comb raisers. All excellent products, I, like Robden, have left the pad unfinished on the Trap stock, I managed to buy a 16mm used pad off here, which is on my Classic Doubles sporting stock. That had been fitted to another gun, but it went straight onto my...

    Who Doesn't like A Semi....?

A lot of the 'misfires' with the bottom barrel of an O/U could be avoided by cleaning the bottom barrel firing pin more often, especially with the Browning variations.

Remember to put your glasses on

It would hurt a damned site more if you were wearing poor quality glasses or worse, none at all. Pilla do have a repair service, depending on how badly damaged the lens is. As above though, my protective gear goes on in the car park at the shooting ground and stays on until I finish shooting...

    Winchester AA

24 gram is approximately 7/8 ozs. 28 gram is approximately 1 ozs. 30 gram is approximately 1 1/16 ozs. 32 gram is approximately 1 1/8 ozs.

    Winchester AA

Yes, 28 grams equates to 1 oz. I believe 32 gram or 1 1/8oz are still available in US. When I started clay shooting in the 1970's, the Winchester AA, Trap 100 and Trap 200 in 32 gram were the usual cartridges. I remember years after we went onto 28 gram, I was in America in the 90's and...

I seem to recall Duncan Lawton doing rather well, using a Remmie 1100.

    Who Doesn't like A Semi....?

If you can stand 'clunk, click, every trip, then buy a recoil operated auto. As said, they are easier to clean than an O/U. I had a Beretta 391 and although extremely reliable, a bit of a pig to clean, compared to my old 303, and more valves than a Range Rover. I would steer clear of Remmie's...

    Who Doesn't like A Semi....?

Browning 2000, THAT was probably the worst auto ever made.......even worse than a Hatstand ! That prompted Browning to go to Beretta, I think the conversation went along the lines of "HELP.....make us an auto " That was the birth of the Browning B80. Which is a direct lift of a Beretta...
