One price for Birds Only, another for Birds Only and to have your score submitted to CPSA ( an extra pound ) and a third price for 'competition entry'

Not much point when C class is knobbled by a score of 91!

And you lot wonder why the rank and file shoots birds only!

I really don't see the point of renewing CPSA membership next year.

The website says the results are preliminary because they need to check with CPSA

It looks like a contingent from Sweden won B & C class with 91 and also 2nd in C class . I see TBC next to their scores , I couldn't find them listed on the CPSA . How do they check their classification I wonder ? Presumably that's what TBC is about ? Well shot Nimbus btw .

i think it was £30, £31 and £35.

First time I have been asked a pound for submitting scores.

Muggins here went comp entry!

I'll be keeping track on my spreadsheet from now on. :)

Can't see how that works I shot there 2/3 weeks ago £36 for competition non CPSA, I won't be going back the place is a piss take top prices no facilities club house, etc, it's a joke

Class scores are always on the high side there due to the nature of the targets I'm afraid

Why would you want scores submitted but not enter the comp???
For one you might be trying to get your first classification.

My understanding was that as a CPSA member one was obliged to submit a score after entering a registered comp. I also understood that being a sanctioned comp part of the sanction was getting your scores recorded towards your classification.

It now appears that not only do you pay for CPSA membership but you pay to have scores recorded too on top of the sanction fee that's built in to the entry fee.

I'm new to shooting, having only started this year so maybe I'm not up-to-speed with the ins and outs of all this but right now I see it all as a dissincentive to membership for anyone but the top shooters.

You are right. I have never heard of a discount for score not being submitted. This is new even to Horne I think.

I'm the World's Greatest Birds Only Shooter, meaning, I only go competition when you have no option. I have no interest in scratching around for a few pennies.

My scores have always been sent to the CPSA for the birds only price, otherwise I would not have much of a classification. Being charged £1.00 extra to do what they are supposed to is a rip-off!!

The only scores that are not supposed to be submitted are non-CPSA members scores. Members scores are supposed to be recorded.

Are we sure the £30 was not for re-entry if you wanted a second go?  So £35 comp, £31 birds only and £30 re-entry.  Just a thought.

You know. A friend of mine put an interesting point to me about Bisley Shooting Grounds £250 membership fee (Its cheaper to shoot it as a guest I advocate).

His point was. If we don't support our clubs financially then their will be very few clubs left to shoot resulting in longer drives and more expensive entries etc, for us.

An example was Southdown's last shoot in the rain only 40 odd entries, must have lost money. 12 stands - 12 scorers - prize money, etc.

Southern Counties closed.

I am not saying we should be ripped off, but the ground owners do need to make a living out of it or its not worth their while doing it.

They need to make clear their charges, poor attendance pay outs, poor weather payouts all the stuff that shooters on here talk about.

I am sure if there was some clarity we would all understand and support them rather than see club after club fold and our sport decline further.

I see my friends point of view.

Just my opinion.

Surely grounds need to at least take a deposit which would be forfeit if the shooter doesn't show up because its raining!

Another way of reducing the cost in the event of bad weather is to turn it into a squadded shoot and save on some referees being stood at each stand getting cold and wet!

Many shoots you do not need to book in for, its just turn up and shoot.  Squadding at big competition shoots yes but I am not sure I would want to be tied down to either turning up at a particular time or waiting around to make up a squad.  Also quite a few do more than one (ESP) shoot in a day and its quicker to go around in smaller numbers.

Spoken like a typical clueless 'bean counting' accountant!!! Deposit??? Think about that one...clue, it's an 'open' shoot

"...in the event of bad weather turn it into a squadded shoot" WOW...think about that one too Robert, are you going to send half of your refs home with no pay? Do you think your customers will be happy turning up to blast round a.s.a.p. only to find out when they get there that it is squadded? What are you going to spatter you've sen't half your refs home with no pay, more people turn up to shoot in the rain than you thought would, there's not enough refs left to get everyone out in squads...are you going to phone your now pissed off refs you've sent home to come back and help? I've got a fair idea what your answer will be...

Like any business that is on the knife edge of profit; the quandary is: Cut overhead (go squadded in the case of shooting) and possibly alienate /lose clients, or go all out (keep it casual entry and offer good prizes) and take the risk of failure or success from turnover earned.
