Not quite James

I'm saying the class handicapping system doesn't work very well and taking the money out is as valid an approach as making everyone pay for what some apparently consider the  'honour' of shooting a comp. I have won about £100, not a lot but I'm NOT complaining about the prize money. What I am saying is that there is so little money in it for anyone that for all the aggro the system causes it may as well be scrapped!

In the past year I have entered perhaps 25 comps and paid full whack for most of them including what turned out to be nearly £1 / target FITASC comps. A lot were way beyond my skill level but I participated on the basis that I might learn something and I've enjoyed the shooting and the company. ( well most of them anyway, letting £1 clays get away is frustrating! )

It's a shame some of you guys can't enjoy your shooting for the sake of just shooting. Just the pure challenge of you and the target. You should try it sometime. It's a real buzz!

I'm sure some on here can only think of a target lost as something that has lost you money, rather than a target that has tested your ability to beyond it's capabilities.

I suppose we all do it for different reasons and look for different outcomes?  It's the difference between Competitors and Sportsmen. No wonder some are prepared to cheat to fulfill their aims.

could,nt agree more with the last post

bang on target.....no pun intended...honestly

stop thinking how much that missed targets cost you and enjoy yourself

or take up golf/fishing and pay silly money

Scrap birds only.

Job sorted.

Then whatever class you are....go out to shoot your best.....

If you are not happy with your best.....then get some lessons.....or some more practice...

Simples

(Ninja mode. Of course this needs the shooters to look at their results whilst sat on the reality cloud rather than cloud cuckoo land.)

I can see where hes coming from , why pay into a pot you know is way out of reach . Its worse for me as i often pay for Sam and myself , although to be fair , Sam on occasion does do well, but i don't seem to get any money back from him and I'm the one that `backed` him ...! To be honest , i just love shooting and get pleasure from shooting with a nice group of people . I  try to improve, by looking at my technique and refining it where i can and working on the clays i have most trouble with . I find it a great challenge and for me the money side is really secondary to that .The touch of irony to this whole thread is, if the the two TBC`s in C class are not `verified` then the OP might be glad he payed in after all .Lets see what happens .  How do you check someones classification from abroad I wonder .  Its 9 days and counting  :santaclaus:

Agree with DT.

We had horrendous conditions for the skeet on Sunday, 1 gun dropped out after 50 but four of us carried on and shot the four rounds. Scores were rubbish but we had a good time, congratulating each other when one of us managed to break one of the more extreme WTF clays. Watching the flight of the clays was almost as entertaining as shooting them

I shoot to break as many clays as I can no matter what the discipline. No interest in whether I beat others or not, never have been, gaining the experience and developing the skill to break every clay in presented me is what I aspire to, the rest is frippery.

Well they scrapped the TBC's at Horne but they're only paying first place so I missed any money.

But I managed a place in my class and that made it worth it! THE MONEY DOESN"T MATTER!

This seems to come up on the forum with regularity and for all the blustering of the 'scrap bird's only' crowd I suspect that the great unwashed masses will hold sway and BO will be around for a long time.

Interesting to not the other thread where in SA there is no prize money, just the 'prestige'.

I will be watching Fedecat with interest. If it's run comps only it will be interesting to see what sort of following it gets. Perhaps just the big boys ( and girls ) only club

Don't you worry about Fedecat...it is played Internationally. No one needs to play if they do not want to

Tinker - "no moaners"  - dream on!!!!!!
Ah...Zella....dreams become reality

Fedecat-UK is a place that people want to be rather than have to be.

Come on down :)

"Be careful what you wish for"  - which film was that now?

Some grounds appear to abuse the current system - to their advantage too by the look of it. Abandon 'targets only'? Imagine what would happen if that came into force. Nothing to stop grounds operating an Open Shoot policy of course, implement what rules suit you, three prizes - Senior, Junior and Ladies. See two pairs from the cage before you shoot, no glasses, no hearing protection, no cartridge restrictions. Ah, the good old days. Oh yes - no entries either. Not going to happen is it?

Grounds can do that already. They own their business. The shooting world is changing with the times.

Nothing wrong with freedom of choice. Lots of room for new ideas from shooters, grounds and people interested in sponsoring events.

When I first posted about the PSCA tour....there was lots of nashing of teeth and wailing....'tried it before ...years ago ...and it won't work'

Well it has worked....just like I said it would.

Lots of happy faces enjoying the challenge.

You know. A friend of mine put an interesting point to me about Bisley Shooting Grounds £250 membership fee (Its cheaper to shoot it as a guest I advocate).

His point was. If we don't support our clubs financially then their will be very few clubs left to shoot resulting in longer drives and more expensive entries etc, for us.

An example was Southdown's last shoot in the rain only 40 odd entries, must have lost money. 12 stands - 12 scorers - prize money, etc.

Southern Counties closed.

I am not saying we should be ripped off, but the ground owners do need to make a living out of it or its not worth their while doing it.

They need to make clear their charges, poor attendance pay outs, poor weather payouts all the stuff that shooters on here talk about.

I am sure if there was some clarity we would all understand and support them rather than see club after club fold and our sport decline further.

I see my friends point of view.

Just my opinion.
southern counties have never wanted to support sporting in anyway, only interested in trap because of the relative profit..

and the reason the Crooks are closing is because they can make more money from solar panels....just pure greed as their plant company alone is valued at 20 Million!
