Buy a 20g then in 6 months sell it when she gets bored with it all OR buy her a 12 when she gets bitten by the bug and then starts to think "hang on a minute am I being ripped off by at least one target per round as all the other little ladies seem to be using those huge great 12g thingies" either way it is my opinion that the 20g "may" be on its way out in six months.

My wife 4'10. Has shot 12 bore from the start. When we had lessons the coach taught us with an old miroku with a shortened stock. The good lady now has a MK 70 with a 12 1/2 inch stock (kickeez pad) and shoots 28g blue diamond with no real issues at all.

All this 'we do everything together' is all very well but I can't help but think that all this anxiety and worry could have been avoided right from the very start. If the first half dozen shots had been taken with a 26ins skeet gun and 36gms ZZ cartridges then all these problems would have been solved before they even happened. Lets be honest, shooting is expensive and who wants to pay for two of everything? :sarcastic:

In the interests of gender equality and fairness I really should point out that in my case she's the one with the money...

Buy her a 12 bore now...try Caesar Guerini....beautifully balanced and pretty and I am loving my new one....make sure you check stock height...ideally you want an adjustable stock as her no doubt swan like neck will mean she won't see any rib on a off the rack gun...

Happy to meet up so she can have a play with mine (she says having no idea where you live but can't check or I'll lose everything I have typed)

She can then nick your cartridges and you only need one lot of cleaning stuff for when you clean the family armoury....

Currently sticking to Pilford and Purbeck, but Owls' Lodge is a definite possibility in the future.

Not sure about the girls nicking my ammunition, and certainly no plans for me doing all the cleaning... Actually the latter is a battle not worth fighting. I know, wuss, all that, but domestic harmony is worth having.

We're going to chill on this for a bit, while experience is built. I will be trying the 20 bore auto, left hand spacers and shortest pad, just to see what the reaction may be, and I will be borrowing a left handed 12. I have been offered the use of a Miroku which sounds just fine.

I now realise that the original introductory session had her using a right hand gun, teaching her to twist it clockwise to negate the cast. I'm a bit surprised she has any enthusiasm left after that! Do all shooting schools do that? Don't any of them have guns to suit left handers?

JayKaySea I assume you wouldn't want them parading around with a CG Ellipse Curve with all that engraving of the naked lady? It would sure send out some bizarre signals!

Swan-like is a term that has always amused me. If the person who first used it had ever clapped eyes on a swan they would maybe have thought again. Even Ms Hepburn with her exqisite neck doesn't come close! But the whole business of fitting a gun to suit a woman seems to have just been missed out of the shooting world. I really must get over to have a look at a Syren; at first I was cynical about a manufacturer actually making a woman friendly shotgun, but reports indicate I was premature.

When I play around with the Urika I'll really be using it as a try gun. There will doubtless be a lot of cardboard and electrical tape involved. I hope I can avoid the hacksaw.

For the avoidance of any doubt whatsoever the insulation tape, cardboard and (possibly) hacksaw will only be used on the gun. The ladies will remain unmodified.

Left handlers are exceedingly poorly catered for even the biggest ground are unlikely to have a LH 20 to suit a lady. It's an argument I have had with many gunshop employee.

Me, "got anything with a cast on stock"

Them "eh? What's that?"

Me "lefthanded "

Them "Er, no but there is a lovely XYZ that's very straight "

Me "that's not cast on tho, is it"

Them "oh that's no problem we've sold loads if them to lefthanders"

Me "oh so if it makes no difference why do they make them RH??? "

Them "erm...."

Is how it usually goes....
