Very insightful....
Was not talking to you ....silly boy Pike.

It was a facebook 'comment' to a facebook pal and was humorous if you are on the facebook thread as well.

Try not to be paranoid. I am not in conversation with you.

Hope that helps :)

Or quick cheap fix........tennis racket grip.it comes on a roll. Use as much as you want and pack out palm to suit. You see loads of shooters using this cheap fix.
Try using a fingerless padded glove. this will fill your hand and not shift around like some temp palm swells can. Also trans to any gun you pick up.look on bingle, you can get different palm thicknesses.Found this out in Cyprus when i spoke to one of their team who was using one.

Cheers Mark, sounds good.

I've had a quick look on Amazon and for a few quid they're worth a try.

Iggy.

You can also get very good padded handlebar tape.

I would not strip the hard surface finnish on a Beretta,it is a total nightmare to get off, Nitromors can't touch it and def not a home job. It's more of a thin gloss epoxy resin.

Tim Greenwood has just done two articles in Clay shooting magazine (july &august)on a gun he added wood to the comb and palm swell for himself.

You would prob be cheaper getting a new 682 stock that has the palm swell as standard and then lacquering it up to match the forend if you like the glossy finish. Sporting gun always has adverts for new stocks and forends.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the xtra grain finish a type of laminate film? I was under the impression it was used over a plainer piece of wood for a figured stock at lower cost. If this is the case stripping it will leave you with a very plain looking bit of wood :(

Correct you are, though on top is the finish from hell. The plain piece of wood can be made to look very nice by feathering different shades of oils in different areas to look like grain stripes etc, it would take a fair bit of time and effort. I know I have done this to a Beretta Urika, biggest load of wood finishing trouble I have ever had, even using an old boat builders tip of using broken glass and scrapers hardly wanted to shift damn coating, It took weeks and I nearly went and got a new stock, in the end I had really plain piece of wood, to me it looked more like American walnut(i worked as a timber merchant for many years) the forend l suspected to a more European lump as it was totally different. More than a fortnight with stains, wax and oils had it somewhere looking like a nice oiled Beretta stock. Eventually traded it in and it's on sale now for more than I paid for it 8 years ago, so I suppose my finish has added some value.

No, you're thinking of Xtra Wood.

Xtra Grain is walnut that has "figuring" applied by scorching (or so I'm told) on to the wood using a laser. There's nothing new about faking grain, it's been going on for generations. IMO the mistake Beretta makes is in going completely over the top trying to replicate Grade 6 woodwork. The result is that the Xtra Grain on the Prevail 1 varies from dreadful to a more muted acceptable level.

FWIW I've stripped and refinished 3 Beretta poly finished stocks with Nitromors. The trick is to apply loads of stripper then wrap it in foil to be as near air tight as possible and leave to stew for an hour or so before scrubbing down with white spirit. Takes about 3 goes to get it right back to wood. Miroku poly finish is BTW a much bigger challenge!

Always thinking of xtra wood :D that makes sense. Must admit my miroku was quite easy to strip, mind you I bathed it in nitromoors and wrapped it in foil as you suggest then kept brushing a bit more on every hour for about 3 hours!
