I not sure if I'm doing the correct thing I have just purchased a 2nd gun and need to add it to my cert. I'm looking on the net site and it looks like if I'm in the correct place you have to pay £20 to add it. Anyone in the met area know if this is correct? Thanks

Not the Met area myself , but , There should be no charge for adding a shotgun to a certificate . The process is this .

The seller of the gun writes the gun make , type ( ie o/u SxS etc ) , calibre and serial number on your certificate ( you don’t do this ) , together with their Name , Address , and authority to sell , which will be either their SGC if you’ve bought it privately or their RFD number if they’re a dealer .

You then ( within 7 days normally ) either complete an acquisition form by hand and post it to your licensing authority , or complete an online acquisition form for which you will receive a confirmation e-mail .

The handwritten entry by the seller is all you will have on your certificate until your next renewal .

I think the £20 fee you refer to is a firearms variation fee , nothing to do with shotguns .,

A word of warning.......IF you manage to do this on line, I urge you to print off the confirmation email. I have had 2 occasions in the past whereby my file had not been updated and the Firearms Dept. were looking for a gun I no longer owned. I was able to quote the reference number and send a copy as an attachment, for the proof of my doing my bit. Do NOT rely on the relevant Police Force always getting it right.
