Please advise lovely wise ones. When cleaning my gun I noticed a little piece of metal missing - picture attached. I presume I should not use it until seen by gunsmith and rectified? Gun is less than 3 yrs old but does work hard.

the gun will be fine to use its just the solder has dropped out! A good gunsmith will resolder it!

solder has fell out easy job I'd get the other side removed and redone as it's very pitted

It is extremely important to ensure all moisture is expelled from between the ribs and barrels before soldering the fillet back into place, to ensure unseen corrosion does not start . When the repair is carried out, ensure rosin is used as a flux and not an acidic such as Baker's soldering fluid.

This same thing happened to my old Zabala SxS; fixed it myself in 10 minutes. Just built up a little solder in the gap, left it to cool before flatting it off with a file.

I guess I was lucky as I did not even think about the proper flux thing (good point Mr H) but I did make sure the gun was good and dry.

Anyway, that was about 20 years ago, I last saw the gun about 3 years ago and the repair was still good.

+1 to what's been said, I have had same problem, do i see file marks across the end of those barrels?

It sure could do with a clean.

No you don't see file marks ???  You are only seeing the very end of my barrels,  not yet finished cleaning,  inside my barrels are sparkling and all my metal work is squeaky clean.  Thanks.

But you do need to stop biting your finger (thumb) nails and that shoe rack could do with a tidy :)

You need glasses DT that shoe rack is the bottom of a swivel chair.  I like biting my nails, its supplements my diet.

Once dated a young lady who could bite her toe nails.

Just saying.

Ps

It was about the same time my back problems started.

when I was little I used to like to bite my brother's toe nails and I could reach my own if I wanted!!!!

Same issue with mine. I think its been like that for 10 or more yrs now, but thinking lately to get it sorted. Great advise about the flux Peter, thanks.

BTW will it add to barrel weight much :girlcrazy:  :spiteful: :mole:

You realise you said that out loud don't you?

Eeeeuuk
Yes Finners, I have no shame or care.  I can admit that in the full flush of lust/love for my beloved husband (I was 16 yrs), I collected his nail clippings amongst other things and kept them in a box under my bed.  They may still be there!

You could create a shrine for them...........pop them in the coffee grinder and put them down the hole in your barrel end.

That stuff sbout collecting you beloved's toe nail clippings is straying dangerously close to what my dear wife would term an "overshare".

Already stated I don't have any shame and the uncomfortable feeling the sharing may give you is your problem not mine as I am oblivious in my "no shame or caring state".  :girlcrazy:  Guru would be proud I feel.
