A number of lessons under my belt, new gun and a load of cartridges. Its time to go it alone for the first time.

Off to Hawley, had my first lesson there and seemed pretty informal so should be an ideal place to start. Little did I know they have a competition on and the place was packed with people. I was ready to turn around and come away but the wife pointed out that I had spent good money on the gun so I was damn well going to use it.

Off to the desk then but what do you ask for? They dont teach you that in any lesson. So score card in hand I headed for the nearest stand. Damn theres a queue of people and more people joining behind me. Will they watch me shoot or will they be kind enough to turn there back and let me do my thing without eyes boring into me.

Now its my turn and everything ive ever been taught leaves my mind. I stand funny, I just shoot in the general direction of the little black flying disc thingy, I feel thousands of eyes boring into my back (might be a slight exaggeration), I feel rushed. Just 4 out of 10, dont look at anyone as you walk away. Deep breath and on to the next, keep going and finish with 50/100

Things can only get better

Well John, you're over the first and most major hurdle. That of shooting on your own unsupervised.

From now on it will only get easier and you will meet lots of like minded people who will guide you onwards.

Good score you ended up with there, it shows you have listened to your instructor and followed their advice.

Congratulations, now go again and enjoy yourself, It's a great sport!

+1

Great first result John.  Onwards & upwards  :hi:

Thanks guys can't wait to go again. My shifts include the next few weekends so need to find somewhere open during the week. Will probably have to go alone as normal people at work so I will need to take that in to account when looking for somewhere to shoot

thats a good score!!! well done! If i'd of known Hawley was open I would have gone there! I went to JJ's today just Messing about in the sensible manor Hitting things on the drop shooting pairs the wrong way around really just trying to build up a back up of shots .

Happy shooting and enjoy

Onward and upward dear boy....We all had the collywobbles when we first started. Now you know what to do, your second shoot will be easier :nyam:   :nyam:   :nyam:

Most of the people will be watching the targets not you so don't let that put you off mate. I was sh*tting myself at my first reg shoot and couldnt stop shaking .. It gets easier.

John I think of you speak to most of those behind you they would more than likely go round with you cos that's the beauty of this sport.

I'm just getting started and have jumped in to competitive shooting. Scores around the 50's too.

I shoot Kent, Sussex and Surrey areas. Haven't tried Hawley yet!

Use the CPSA site to find weekday shoots.

If you are looking for someone to walk round with on a weekend drop me a message!

Keen to shoot the evening shoot at the cement factory near Shoreham on a Thursday.
