I have read that there is no evidence whatsoever to support lengthening forcing cones and back boring, BUT, since I had my MK38 done I have noticed less recoil, the amount of metal removed will have little to no effect on reduced recoil due to gun weight (most of the recoil is absorbed through the stock and wood grain anyway). The patterns I get have been commented by several very well known shooters, who are amazed when I tell them the choking I use (true half chokes, measured from the bore diameter as a restriction.

So your Miroku was not back-bored from new. Are current new ones back-bored as standard by the factory?

Presumably a job like this would be done by Teague?

Well this is where it gets interesting, apparently the MK38 trap barrels are over bored from new, so all I did was the forcing cones and chokes. Bill Blacker did the work and he is a barrel maker for a very well known english gun company, and he definitely knows his stuff.

Matt, you can get amazing breaks with half chokes and standard cones. You're getting smokes coz you're centring birds with suitable shells. I had an old spec 682's cones modded at a British Open in the mid 90's with no discernible difference to anything recoil or pattern wise.

Who did the cones? Bill Blacker did mine, he has also done some more known shooters barrels, all I can say is there is a difference, we did a test last week, 3 MK38's only mine had the cones done, 2 other shooters felt less recoil using my gun and their shells.

I can't even remember x girlfriends names Matt, and some of them had had cone work done. :nurse:

Rob, I have a new SV10 Prevail which is the same action as the 692 (GMK man showed me the 2 side by side). I shot fibre all weekend with it for the first time. Only issue is, it gets filthy at the action end, in the chambers, and I do mean filthy.

I have had to scrub away like a looney and I still can't get the lead fouling out completely.

Plastic never did that.

Wez
