No it wasn't a p take, I've shot at Lakenheath many times but never had any tuition there and I didn't know the name at all, but I try to remember, as with coaching for anything in life  'just 'cos they can do it don't mean they can teach it'

Tim

'just 'cos they can do it don't mean they can teach it'

Tim, I agree with that wholeheartedly, and that possibly applies to shooting sports more than any other.

There are a lot of mediocre coaches around, but there are also some very good ones, for instance Ed Solomons is a member on this forum. Now I have unfortunately never had the pleasure yet of meeting with Ed but I know he is good . . . . . . why? . . . . . . . because everybody who speaks about him simply says so. There ain't no better advert than that !!!

And believe me, John Dyson can both shoot it and teach it. His career accolades speak for themselves as far as his shooting ability is concerned, but I decided to book with him because I took the advice of some top shots in this country who not only recommended him, but STILL go to see him themselves when they need a "top up" of confidence.

Don't misunderstand, I am not stupid enough to think I am suddenly going to turn up at my next FITASC or Sporting event and start hitting in the 90's just because I have had a lesson with John, but I tell you what, my confidence level now tells me that it is possible, and I will work on the things he has discussed with me and hope that my scores will gradually start to improve, and I will look forward to having another lesson with him in the very near future.  :hunter:

So did the lesson go well?  I've got a lesson booked at High Lodge this Saturday and a gun-fitting session at Holland & Holland next week, which I desperately need as shooting a 100 bird at H.L. yesterday with a work colleague saw me hit a Shocking 37 to his 66 (he used a 20G s/s as well), boy was I peed off and disappointed.  I knew early on when I hit only 2 out of 5 standard rabbits that it was going to be a disaster!  That's the worst I've shot for nearly 2 years, and boy does it knock your confidence some.  Maybe John Dyson is who I need, does he do Miracles by any chance?

Tim

Tim , all I can tell you is that he had me hitting birds I have always struggled with. His explanations were very simple to understand and, to be honest, it felt like somebody switching a light on inside my head, if you know what I mean ?

He makes you shoot a lot and, as I said before, the lesson left me with a feeling of confidence in knowing what I COULD achieve.

Only time will tell if my scores start to increase, and I know its not an overnight process.  I will definitely be booking another lesson with him, but I can't wait to start trying to put into practice at my next comp, and hope that I can do it even when JD is not looking over my shoulder.

Funnily enough, my next comp is a registered FITASC run by JD at Dartford on Sunday . . . . . . . . . ooops :hyper:

It sounds like you had a good lesson with him.  My confidence has been blown to bits by Sunday's score and as I said I've got a lesson booked on

Saturday at H.L. which if I cancel I'll lose my deposit, but certainly I'll bear this guy in mind for the future.  Have you ever had a gun-fitting session at all?

I have never had a specific gun-fitting session, but JD did check it out and actually did advise that Pam's gun did not fit her properly.

We have now had that corrected so it will be good to see what difference it makes to her scores ?
