Hi all.

I am adding to the collection.

I have spied a lovely 682 with all toys. Adjustable stock etc etc.

Seems well priced.

Anyone have one.

How does it handle any known probes. (that I doubt but worth asking).

I am going to view it in the week.

Thanks in advance.

Jeremy

Try it buy it and never sell it. I shoot the old 682 silver action sporter, no one ever says a bad word about the gun ..

Cheers

George

The 682 is indestructible, the 682e is that and shootable too. The main difference is lighter barrels on the latter achieved by removing a bit of rib from the chamber forward up to around where the fore end wood ends. They have no real vices, you could argue the triggers aren't top class but then the gun costs around a third of competitors guns it regularly beats.

If you're not careful it is possible to swipe the barrels selector from bottom to top barrel as you flick the lever across but that's easily avoidable either by filing it down or simply being aware. The many pluses include chromed metal work and barrel internals meaning they won't rust if you forget to clean them. They are also like legal tender, you can sell them without any effort at all.

Thank you very encouraging.

The advert talks of an adjustable butt plate system? Called a Jones system?

Any info on that?

Off to see it in the week.

Folding in the back pocket incase.

Never tried the jones adjuster, but Gunsmith Tim Greenwood highly recommends them,my mate had one fitted by him and says it,s very good as he suffered with recoil

It's been the mid range standard by which others are judged for a long time, although some find the 30" a little light up front. My personal opinion is that the new Prevail 1, which has some clever stuff with the weight distribution, handles even better than the 682 and has better triggers; but of course it doesn't have many toys.

There are thousands of 682s out there and it's for sure you won't be disappointed.

hi jem

both me and the mrs use them . ihave a 32" with the factory ajustable stock . it balances bang on the hinge pin and handles well. the optima chokes are superb(as fitted to dt10 also) no more than 1/2 required for almost any sporting target.. mrs jasper's is a 30" also with the factory ajustable stock, and it balances a tad behind the hinge pin. as the others say you cant go far wrong,if its in nice nick. beware of non factory ajustable stocks adding weight and worth less?

buy it and enjoy. this gun is better than most shooters out there.and as hammy says will regularly beat guns costing 3-4 times as much.

The 682 and 682 gold e are some of the best guns ever made. Can't believe they are stopping production of them...major mistake that.

If you have an adjustable comb and a Jones adjuster you have one hell of a gun if it's been looked after.

The Jones adjuster is a recoil pad/butt plate system that is adjustable in every direction. They are very handy if you are extremely tall with a long neck or for want of a better way of putting it...a bit of an irregular shape. It stops you dropping your head forward on the stock as the butt pad is perfect in the shoulder of the tall, long necked person but the comb is sat perfectly in contact with but under the cheek bone. Looks a little odd but is extremely affective. Can also be used to stop canting of the gun. (leaning the gun over to one side).

I wouldn't mind it myself. ;)

This is all good info, I'm looking for something to start with so will keep an eye out for something like this, or maybe the 686E which I have heard is pretty good.

The 686E is a good gun. It has exactly the same action as the Gold E but doesn't have the adjustable trigger or the Optima barrels. I recently traded one in, the dealer put up at £1,250 and sold it within 3 weeks. Having said that if I were looking at spending around £1,300 on a sporting clays gun I'd lean more towards a new Silver Pigeon 1 with 32" Optima barrels than a used 686E.

Jem, get a good coach to set it up properly for you, it will make quite a difference if he/she knows what they're doing with it all. ;)

Then of course you have to learn to break the targets with it. :D

But keep at it because if you can't shoot much with that gun after a while, your not going to shoot much at all. :D

Top choice of gun and set up - I have exactly the same; 682 Gold E with Jones Adjuster system ;)
