Don't forget the factory adj stock on the 688, too. I have been pondering getting one for the bad weather. I shoot a DT10L, which I think sublime and dearly love, and I don't see us ever parting, but I hate taking her out in the rain and felt the laminate stock might be more suited to tolerate such.

Bland?

In what way?

It's a superb gun for the money and I am not being paid by anyone to say that.
I saw your review ( both) along with three others all of you saying how good the gun was which is good to know but I don't really see why Beretta would class the 688 as a entry level gun as none of reviews would suggest that in terms of performance and handling and having owned a number of Beretta guns over the years starting off with a 680 30'', none of them are what I would class as an entry level gun. I enjoyed the review Lloyd, informative without drooling, just the way I like them. I will be having a look at one as soon as an rfd near to me actually bites the bullet and gets one on the shelf.

New to this forum, like it. Now looking for a 688 or 525SL, LGS says the Beretta comb cannot go low enough for me to fit. Need to find one to check. Both really nice guns I feel.

Have a look at the Browning XS Ultra Black Laminate too.
I have a 688 and I can get it to fit perfectly, my mate has the XS Ultra BL and that feels lower in the comb (to me).

I have always been a Beretta / Perazzi / Guerini man although I have owned a few Browning / Miroku but not liked them very much as we all get something in our heads regarding the reason why we buy certain guns. I have a couple of Miroku guns at present as they were really really really cheap and I confess that I love shooting my little 800 26'' skeet on roosting woodpigeon and on odd occasions a round of clays.
My reason for not wanting another Browning is that I find they are more prone to muzzle flip than the Italian guns, yes it may well be in my head but even when I have watched the youtube footage of the Beretta vs Browning being used, the recoil seems quite different in my eyes even though they are like the rest of me aging fast.
I am sure you Browning fans will say that I am wrong but if we take trap shooting as an example, it is important to have muzzle flip to a minimum for the second barrel if needed so why do all the top OT shooters use Perazzi / Beretta guns I know the Krieghoff have a strong presence in DTL but are way out of my pension range and never fired one although I would love to try one so I do not include this gun in my thought process.

The waffling on of an old fool....

I'm with you.... before I bought my 688 I tried a lot of guns from different manufactures and just couldn't get the feel I wanted, if if the fit was there. I am with you on Browning, I just can't get on with them even if I hit clays - just not for me.
