Hi All,

Just wondering why a lot of trap shooters have blinkers on the sides of their glasses? What is the benefit and purpose of them.

I have seen them for a while and always wondered but rarely have I seen sporting or skeet shooters using them and just wondered what they were for.

Might seem like a dumb question but just wanted to find out ;)

Cheers,

Jon.

I was told its to stop them catching any peripheral movements out of the corner of their eyes and to ensure that they can only focus downrange nowhere else. Not entirelysure this is the bona fide reason but thats what DTL shooter at Bisley told me a few years back

David

I have a tiny bit of experience with these and can vouch for their effectiveness in cutting out glare from the sides, they are absolutely ace in fact.

Also, they fend off inconsiderately ejected cartridges from the pogo stick wielding bloke on the left.

where do you get them from? or is it a matter of making from an old cartridge box?

I got mine as cut outs from a shooting mag a while ago but I have occasionally cut my own from old cartridge boxes. I assume they're available from Italian gun shops?!

But you remembered what you were told some time ago and I think that proves that you listen even though it is not your preferred discipline. Big gold star matey.

I still have hope of converting you to trap (smile) even Helice.............(wink)

If you really want the "proper" ones Mulliner guns have loads of HI-Def spex ones in diferent colours all logo-ed up :D

Yes they do cut reflection on the inside of your glasses but trap is the discipline where you stand alongside other guns - no point in sporting or skeet [in helice you may even block out one of the traps]. When adrenalyn flows your periferal vision widens so you become conscious of movements alongside [note my comments on OT etiquette]. With a cap and sideshields there is a camera lens effect of dark into light which dilates the pupils [hamster thinks b******s here]. There is an international max size of 25mm [another Olympics rule]. Wraparound wearers are starting to tape up the inner sides to bypass this but the best blinkers are made from the translucent plastic dividers you can get from stationers.

Nicola having just read 40up,s post I think the technical aspects of just getting prepared to shoot trap would wear me down never mind actually shooting it!!

Having said that I would think that Helice is as near to a genuine sporting target in the wild so to speak, I think I might well try that, I like the idea of the unpredictability, it rather mirrors my shooting abilities !! or should I say lack of them !!

David you will love it.......that is the challenge of trap.

I have not always shot trap..... For nearly 20 years I shot FITASC Sporting and Game. I only became a Trappie in 2004 after trying what I thought would be an incredibly boring discipline (Helice) because they only shot 20 targets!!!

Not so and I am now hooked to the Darkside!!!

OT is the real painful one.......but starting to get a bit further down that road but only for my own pleasure .......not for competition. (wink)

.Roll On Floor Laughing.

I like everyone Darky (wink)
