Hi Sian  -  no you are really not aware of feeling or even seeing it.

Shooting handguns is enormously exciting and a great skill to try and master. Sadly, through ignorance and knee-jerk politics their ownership in uk was banned, mostly in response to the tragedy at Dunblane.

The stupidity of the legislation simply removed guns from licensed and honest people and leaving the criminal element still with illegal ownership.

Stupid, ignorant, and attempting to increase their vote.

If a party from this forum ever wants to organise a few days trip to Czech Republic, we would happily come along and through our gun dealer friend, organise as much handgun shooting as you like, trying all kinds of guns?

I promise you would have a great time.

Malc

Hey no1topdog  -  you're quite right, not quite a cloverleaf at 25metres, but was more accurate than I had imagined (see target pic)

Also as I know you are interested, a few more pics of different guns, including a Ruger .44 Magnum with a 9mm Scorpion fully automatic machine pistol, and a 4" .357 Magnum, plus a pic of the 25mtr range in Plzen, CZ

Hi Gurini Guy,

Thanks for the photos. For those that don't shoot pistols that grouping might not be too impressive, but to those that do (or did) and imagining what that gun was like to handle, I am impressed by that! Certainly a man sized target would be history, and that's what it's all about really.

I like the .357mag revolver. I had something similar once but mine was 6" and had a few tweaks to the sights, grips and polished mechanism, which made it super smooth in single or double action. Luckily I had to sell it before the ban as giving it up for destruction would have been very hard to accept.

At the time of the ban I was working in a local gunshop as shooters were bringing in their weapons for disposal. There was so much history and some beautiful weapons destroyed by that, and it was painful to see the upset it caused.

I'm glad you are able to continue your sport, even if it means travelling abroad. Long may you and Guerini Girl continue to shoot this way. Thanks again!

This sounds interesting.

The pistol shooting that is,i cant seem to get my "quote" button working.

GG i have to ask this question because I have always wanted to try handguns and never had an opportunity too  but the second picture in looks scary - do you actually feel the heat of that flame?

GG is right.  There is even talk of the ban being illegal, but...just something I heard.

A number of the guys n girls I know, who used to shoot pistol, bought revolvers with fixed braces and long barrels, so called LBR's (Long Barrelled Revolvers).  These you can own and shoot in the UK, at appropriate ranges.  If you can find a local club, you can enjoy under-lever rifles and LBR's, in most of the shexy calibres.  Not the same as "proper" pistols, but worth a bash.  Or do what GG does...only a plane ride away.
